May be headed down to Shabbona Lake sometime next week. Any general information, tips, or knowledge of the lake and its recent fishing would be greatly appreciated.

I don't fish it anymore. If you can get out during the week that will be best. Some big fish in there but so many novice inconsiderate "fisherman" with no clue out there. It's a zoo. I would troll shad schools or cast the earthen piers.

I agree that the weekends are a joke. However, if you get out during the week during this time fo the year you will often find the lake very uncrowded. Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday arethe least crowded days.

Topwater plugs like Top Raiders are great early and late in the day next to the expansive weedbeds. Troll the shad plugs during mid-day or early and late. The earthen piers almost always hold fish as do the weedbeds.

IF you like wallye and largemouth bass bring along some tackle for them too, there are plenty of them in the lake.

be carefull!! Water temps are WAY UP over 80 degrees which can stress muskies to the point of killing them if caught. Even if they are handled correctly.
