What? You mean you do not know about the black lure cult? YES! Black is absolutely terrific for pike and musky, although I must confess I also own several other colors of baits. However, when I wish to try a new lure or model, I often purchase some black pattern, for I know that the color offers a great silhouette underwater and almost always works. Hence, if the new lure does not work, it is usually not because of color! Other great patterns (for me, at least) are perch, hot orange and jailbird. Tight lines with those black lures! Pat

Jay,
There are people who do almost all of their Muskie fishing with black lures. Musky Hunter magazine had an article about this a few months back. If I recall correctly, Muskie Inc. records reveal that more big fish have been caught on Black than all of the other colors combined, so yeah, you will do very well with black. :)

Once you go black, you never go back......right? Something like that!

Wanna catch nortons, tie on white or yellow, black may work, but not like white and yellow.
I have talked about this with others, does black catch so many fish because EVERYONE throws it or because it really works??? If I remember correctly, black suicks have caught more than ALL other suicks combined.
I admit, I throws lots o black, but once the paint wears off, I leave them and they still seem to work.
Also, I add a blob o white to the top fo all my black baits, that way I can see them coming.

You can not go wrong throwing a black lure for either muskies or northerns. The Black contrasts well with any sky conditions allowing the fish to see the lure better. Another color scheme to try, for northerns, is the basic white and red. For some reason, northerns seem to like this combo.
