View Full Version : Upper South Long Lake?
Just made reservations to stay at Noka Sippi on Upper South Long Lake in MN. The resort has always been a pleasure to stay at, but fishing has been sort of hit or miss. I know its a good crappie lake, but I would like to fish for Walleye, Northern and Bass.
I looked at the lake finder offered by MN DNR, but to tell you the truth I have trouble understanding it.
We are going on May 17th for a week so it should be a great time of year.
Anyone ever fished this lake? What can I expect?
Thanks,
NC

Anyone know about this lake? #####, most of you guys seem to know everything to do with Minn. fishing I figured this was the place to find the answers.
Thanks anyway,

Amazing ,I was just at the DNR site to see if there was any up to date info. I kind of grew up and started walleye fishing on that lake.My Grandma and Grandpa had a cabin and then a house next to the resort you're staying at , the brick place.I haven't been there in several years but might go ice fishing there tomorrow.Basically the best bet is weed eyes.Using any stadard technique .Floats with leeches or shiners always worked well as did jigging along the weed edges.Later in the year we'd get them trolling crankbaits out in the main basin south of the reed island in the middle of the lake.Being a weedy lake you would be apt to catch either walleyes , bass or northers all in the same place and pretty much scattered all over the lake.Look for weed edges in the 7-9 foot range.good luck.
Hey I appreciate your input. I realize this isn't a tremendously well known lake, but I figured with all the posts on here someone should know about it. I'll certainly remember what you said and thanks again.
