There has been a lot of stir recently on such subjects as PETA, Greenpeace, and HSUS. A lot of us are scared of these groups, and scared that they might end up taking away our hunting and fishing priviliges or rights. Some of these fears are well founded, most are not. Fear stems from not knowing about somthing.

If you are serious about protecting your sport, than I suggest trying to understand why people are against it. Their arguments may seem illogical, but this is no reason not to learn about them.

Take time to read their handouts, and read about the studies and literature that are behind their ideas.

For anybody involved in a battle, it is important to know your enemy. After doing some learning, you may find out that they aren't your enemy at all, but if they are, you will posess valuable information on how to fight them. If everybody sits back in ignorance, then they surely will take away your rights. Also, with this knowledge, we can learn to be more environmentally responsible hunters and fishermen, therefore making even harder for anybody to bash us.

Right now, the image of a sportsman is of a person who just wants to shoot and kill things, and isn't all that knowledgable about his or her surroundings. We have the power to change this image. We must become informed environmentalists for the sake of our own sports. Remember, knowledge is power. If you just sit around and let sombody else do it, it won't get done, and our kids will not have the rights that we have today.

If you choose to learn, you will be a richer person for it, and you may even be able to make a difference, and if enough of us learn, then we will have no worries as to the future of our sport.
