Webster's muksie population took a dramitic hit from all of the weed kill that went on this past summer by the lake front property owners. It is really not worth the drive to fish it anymore. Look to Cave Run or The Fox.

That's Bull. This is still a great fishery with size and numbers. This guy doesn't want to share this great resource. I'm sure he fishes elsewhere??
It will take a long time for any lake the size of webster to come anywhere close to the fishery webster is. If you are a beginner this lake is great. you get lots of follows it keeps you at your best. The lakes around webster are also very good. the whole barbee chain will be as good as webster in time. The other lakes are just not there yet. These lakes can handle the pressure they get, if and only if the fisherman ( women ) respect each other and the fishery. These lakes are amazing. we just need to relax help each other fish them and they will stay this way for a long, long time. Just my 2 cents.
release them all big and small !

There was an excessive amount of weed killer dumped into the lake this year. Things are slow now. Fish are scattered and the big ones are hard to find. This is not bull.

I agree with Matt. I don't think anyone is saying that there's no fish in there but catching is not what it once was out there, super dumb, hungry, and easy to catch. It is now a little more like reality, which requires some work. There were times this summer where they would clearly not come above the thermoclyne for anything. I called it quits out there this summer because of it like many others. Will it continue to be tough this fall, we'll see. One thing is for sure, there are not as many fish in there as last year, have you seen the dead fish pix on the wall at YOT? I would bet from memory that 80% of the pix on their wall are of bonked fish. There's no arguing about many of them which are taken in basements and on driveways.

Luke, you have to be careful what you say about the deadfish pics at YOT, i brought it once last year, on this board, and you would of thought i brought up the Holocaust. People crying like thier dogs died becuase they need the meat to eat...

Tom:
This is one area where I will actually side with the Hulberts...LOL. I don't care what the ice holer's say, I'm not happy about the harvesting. Many of the fish on that wall are barely legal. Too bad the INDNR thinks its not an issue because its a put-n'-take fishery.
Hey you will not find to many people out there with as much passion for any sport as the Hulberts have for musky fishing. I think its great. I have lerned so much from Tom and his brother. Thanks again guys Its been I tough summer for me But I hope to see you on the water soon.

too many dead fish + too many dead weeds = great fishery?
sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
hope this trend doesn't continue for too long

Fished Webster yesterday. Unbelievably bad, two small follows. Can't really mark any Musky like in years past. Whats's really hard to understand is the suface temp was 58 with a thermocline set up at 35' with the water temp under that at 52. Fishing should have been great before the actual turnover. This means turnover is within a few days. So fishing could get worse!!!!!!!

Stephen,
As you can see, Webster Lake is a very touchy subject around here.
I fished it last week on Friday from around 9:00-2:30, we caught one nice fat 38 1/2" and a 27".
I'ts true that the action has slowed down with the weed kill and the water clarity, but there are still fish in the lake. I think that everyone that fishes this lake is a bit spoiled by the number of fish that they are used to seeing. The fish seem to be moving on the flats, not seeing any big fish at this time, but we all know that they are still in there. Hopefully the water will clear up a little more and we can get some decent fishing in late this fall.
Remember there are other lakes in the area that hold big fish also, Tippy and James being the next best.
Good luck!!!

You just have to know where to look. I boated a 51.5" on Sunday on a weighted Burt.As for the weed kill---just deal with it. So what if you have to work a little harder to catch fish. It's still a better lake than most across the country right now. I never knew a musky person who didn't love to cast/troll, therefore get out there and do it---the fish will show up eventually---good luck---Psychopat
