My rig is a 10 ft john boat ,don't know who's it made by.It's powered by a 17lb thrust minnkota (got to be carefull of battery placement don't want to tip the boat} my finder is a string and weight . Fits nice in the back of my 1983 ford f150 .I havn't caught a muskie yet ,but when I do it should be a hoot.Remember it's not the size of the boat ,but the motion of the ocean.I'm going to need a little rubber raft as a tow barge for my beckman magnum and tackle boxes soon.

I fish out of a angling legand (tracker super guide 16) powered by 60 crazed yamaha horses with a merc 9.9 kicker to boot. I gotta love my minn kota auto pilot ,55lbs of thrust that steers the boat for ya.And my x85 is all I need for finding fish and other cool under water stuff.
Hey Gus
I don't have enough room in my boat for all my tackle and beckman biggie net. I'll have to git me some of dem dare rubber raft barges myself. We all can't afford ranger 619s and all those other big dollar boats ,so make do with what you have and fish hard ,life's short.

This year, I'm fishing out of a "simple little rig".
It's a Viper Boat Company Cobra Coosa 216. 21' 6" of pure fishing machine with an 8' 1" beam. The Mercury 250XB (with shallow water lower unit) sits on a Vance hydraulic jackplate with 14" of setback. Teleflex controls are on the steering column for jackplate and trim and a HotFoot completes the controls.
On the console is a PinPoint 7520 locator and there's one on the bow as well. For a trolling motor, I have a 36 volt PinPoint 2900 SX.
If anyone is curious to see what it looks like, I have a picture of the boat on my website http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com in Frontier Photos, under the "Toys" heading.
This boat is probably the most enjoyable rig I've ever owned. For guiding and fishing, it's a dream come true. Big, roomy, dry and comfortable, it's safe and stable. The boat was designed to fish Lake Erie and the California Delta, so it's at home on big water and laughs at rough water.
But even though it's a big rig, I fish lots of small, northern Wisconsin lakes and have never had a problem launching at even the most shallow landing.
Clients appreciate the amount of room and storage as do I. After having a hat plucked off my head by an errant 5/0 treble hook last season, I like the 9' long front deck.
It's not for everyone, but it works for me.

I have a 17' Warrior with a 115hp Merc. 4st and a 6hp kicker And a pinpoint system that suck .
A 9-foot wood boat bought used in 1980 for $150 and a 5hp Sears bought used in 1983 for $350. I lost an oar in 1989, replacing it cost $20. Let's see $520 divided by 20 years is $26 a year -- heck I remember when you could buy a lure for that.

I have a 2001 Crestliner 1750 Fishhawk w/ a Evinrude 115hp Ficht and a Evinrude 9.9hp four stroke kicker.
The boat is equipped with a Minnkota 74lb. thrust bow mount trolling motor, A Bottomline fish finder and a Garmin gps.
I'm very happy with the boat and the performance.
Good hunting,Jeff<*))))><

All baits are stored under one of three lockable DRY storage lockers which have been customized with hanging bait holders. No more big ole' Plano or Lakewood boxes for me.

I had to drop backwards but still a Tuffy Muskie Renegade with a 70 Yammi, bow Minn Kota 55 Auto pilot, Minn Kota 50 powerdrive on an AdaptEzz bracket at the stern, bow Zercom Flasher and Raytheon 365 on the dash, all shimano reels and Fig Rig rods. I'd like a 20fter again, but this is a great fishing platform!

Pretty pricey rig there i saw a 22 foot cobra with a 300hp high preformace merc it was a cat is your a cat steve? Boat sure rocks the guy looks likes he`s going 100 mph. That said as a troller i can catch fish at the same rate in any ol boat it`s just a matter of comfort Some of the most succesfull fishermen have the least impressive boats.

Just to add a little variety...I do most of my fishing on the river out of a 15ft Ol' Town square stern canoe, powered by a 55lb Minnkota Maxxum Transum mount trolling motor. More stable than you might think (stand and cast easily) and is pretty easy to pull through shoals in low water conditions. Also use a weighted cord to check depth. Got to be careful though when a big girl follows to the canoe or worse...suddenly appears out of nowhere at canoe-side, because shakey knees are not a good thing when standing in a canoe...but no baths yet! I try not to take them out of the water when releasing and it is pretty neat to be that close to them in the canoe...eyeball to eyeball.

Sometimes a 14 foot jonboat, othertimes a 12 foot coleman crawdad. I fish mostly electric-only reservoirs. These little boat are ideal for those locations. We've got some guys with electric motors on their boats that are converted golf cart or fork lift motors. These motors generate approx. 5 1/2 horsepower and cost about $4000.

By "Cat", I assume you mean a catamaran hull? No, it's a typical bassboat hull, only designed for rough water, allowing me to stay comfortable and dry. There is some confusion regarding my boat. My boat was made by Viper Boat Company in Mountain Home Arkansas, there's a Cobra Boat Company as well. I think that's the builder of the boat you saw.
I do agree with you though, it's not for trolling and the boat doesn't make the angler. There's a lot of people out there with more money than ability. But my clients and I put a good number of muskies in the boat every year, so I must be doing something right.
The reasons that I have the boat I do is because I like to have the room when guiding and it's deductable. Plus, my partner and I bought Cobra boats at the same time. I got a "quantity discount" :) Now that I'm doing some television work, I really love having the room.

This is a big boat yet I fish out of it alone quite often and it is very easy to handle, extremely stable. Loads well. I fish everything from shallow 400 acre lakes and rivers to Lake St.Clair in Michigan to LOTW & Leech Lake
This set up can handle anything, trust me, we've put it to the test several times.

I can believe what you're saying. I too fish out of a large bassboat and yup, they're easy to handle solo and take a lot more BIG water than most people believe.
Sounds like you have a sweet ride.

This is a bit embarrassing but here goes:
I have a 14 1/2 ft Harbourcraft (aluminum hull)
with an 8 hp 1993 Johnson 2-stroke
with 2 Scotty rod holders.....and that's it.
However, I live in Central Ontario, and I fish primarily small to medium sized lakes. This rig actually works out pretty nice because I can launch into many lakes that other larger boats would not.
P.S. - Get your a$$es up here guys. This week I've caught a 39", a 36.5", a 41.25" and a 46" muskie all on small lakes. You guys would do great on bigger bodies of water such as Georgian Bay, St. Lawrence River, Ottawa River, Lake of the Woods and the Niagara River along with countless others. The weather's getting nasty but the hogs are starting to bite. I love Ontario!!

I agree with Steve on the bass boat, I changed from the Ranger 620 to a 522 Comanche this year and WOW, I can not even begin to tell you how much I love this rig for musky fishing, for any one in the market for a new rig don't over look bass boats. Matt

They are all nice as long as your on the water.
We fish out of a Ranger 217 Cherokee (bass boat), and love it. Lots of room and suprisingly enough its has plenty of storage. We had to convert the front livewell and built in cooler to storage space, but it works out great.
Its not glass, but it rides fine. We don't abuse her, but where we fish it has high potential of alot of underwater obsticals. Would like glass, but don't want to repair it.

Fishing out of a Warrior 2090BT with a 135 optimax tiller with the pro-tiller power steering. 65lb autopilot and a 74lb vantage do the sneakin around. Have a lowrance x15mt and vexilar FL18 for the spying. The graph is incredible. I was worried about the size of this rig after having a 1750 crestliner, but one trip to leech washed away those unfounded fears. This hull is excellent and I have been able to run 45mph in water I used to trim up go 5mph through.
