I like the vmc roundbends and the short shank mustad round bend hooks. You can get both at rollie and helen's.

...it's usually the one that catches the fish.

"...it's usually the one that catches the fish...."
Sure can't argue with that perspective....;)
That same thought crossed my mind, you just had a quicker keyboard than me!
I agree with Todd about the VMC trebles. The best money can buy.

Hi Swede. I'm from the Netherlands. I'm always using Gamakatsu trebles. I don't know if you can get hold of them in Sweden. They are razor sharp. You can get them upto 2/0. But for most jerkbaits and crankbaits this is big enough.

I'm not so fussy about who makes them... I am fussy about the size and composition. I will use nothing smaller than a 4/0... anything smaller does not have a wide enough gap between the point and shank to give you consistent hook-ups. I prefer saltwater stainless, and then bronze. I have no use for chrome hooks... they're hard to sharpen, won't hold an edge, they rust quickly, and they're often very soft, bending easier than most others.]
Saltwater stainless are the strongest, and they really hold an edge. When you cut one, you have to try to extract it though as they take forever for a fish to rid themselves of it.
Most of my small baits have 4/0's (Muskie Stalkers, Shad Raps), while my standard baits (Jakes, Believers, and Sledges) are 6/0 and 7/0's, and my big boys (the Ukkos, etc.) are 9/0 and 10/0. (And yes, the latter take some serious sharpening; you'll never cut through them unless you've got heavy hook cutters like Knipex either.)

Hi Remko
I too love the Gamakatsu. Do you use the EWG(etra wide gap) Really wish they would make them in bigger sizes. Do you order yours? If so would you please post where. Thanks.

Gamakatsu does make a 5/0 treble. This is a saltwater hook, and I've not used it. Looks kinda thick to me. They do make them that size, though. Check out the Gamy website.

Thanks for the post BrianF,I went to their site & they recently came out with a new black coated Extra Wide Gap treble hook in sizes 2 4 & 6. These hooks are pret near like hand cuffs.

I am using Gamakatsu Treble 13. I have seen the saltwater trebles. I found them too thick. For my lures 2/0 is big enough. Gamakatsu hooks are very common in the Netherlands. I don't need to order them, I just buy them in a tackle shop.
The "O" rings are more inportant then the hooks.Ihad two almost pull
out on Jakes I left one on the Floor of the boat as a reminder!

I also agree, VMC 9626 or 9650 trebles are my fav. on all larger crankbaits. They sharpen well and are very strong!
