Reelman (aka the home of the linecounter) pointed out to me that BPS has a private label linecounter for sale in their 2002 Master Catalog for $59. Thought #1 it would be a good FYI for the board and #2, wanted some info if it's out there.

Has anyone tested the prototypes or used them and can answer:

1. Who makes it for them, they mention "same frame as leading reel" or something to that effect.

2. Does it measure like the Daiwa's (close to feet) as opposed to yards, etc?

3. How is the drag?

4. Does it have metal gears, ball bearings?

The reel isn't listed on their webpage yet, at least that I can find. It would take a lot to get me away from Daiwa's, but I see the reel and a P/K rod is only $79 or so. Dang, I don't have the mag here at work so I apologize if some of the above info was listed in the specs.

Todd,
quoting from their new catalog: "...built on same rugged graphite frame used to manufacture the world's finest trolling reels (?)...mechanical counter tells you exactly how much line you have out in feet.....its tough graphite frame houses a single bearing drive that is geared for ultimate power and accuracy. Lighweight black anodized aluminum spool, hard metal line guide, audible clicker, rugged star drag. Great with superlines. "

price isnt bad but still hard to beat the daiwa's.
the reel looks familiar ...pretty sure i've seen it under another brand, but cant place it.

I have 8 of the gold cup rods that they offer as a combo with this reel and absolutely love them.

Do they remind you of the Shimano too?
