Asked santa for otter boats, but no one stocks them???
What type of boards should I use with my mast outfit?
I know I've seen plans on this board about building your
own, but could'nt fine them. any help would be appreciated.
Tightline, I just completed a set last week using these plans. http://www.hallcrash.com/triflash/free/toppage1.asp These boards are very simple to make. Although I have not used wood boards before, just the plastic ones, I heard nothing but good about wood boards. Majority of the charters will use the wood boards. They are heavier, pull harder, and ride better in rough water than the plastics. The only downside I have found so far is storage. They don't collaspe as like most of the plastic ones do. But if you have some place to put them, I'll bet you will be happy with them. I am anxiously waiting to try mine out, if I don't like them I only have $35 invested. Much cheaper than the ones you can buy. Good luck

tightline,
Take a look here:
http://www.walleyecentral.com/classified/accessories.shtml
Look under "Wisconsin". These are Otter Boards and are what I have. I love mine and these are at a good price, IF they are still available.
good luck in your search!

The best boards can be found at:

The Frisky Jenny boards work great in big waves and impart great action to the baits. I looked into Otter Boats, but they impart no action to the baits.

Hi,
There are a lot of Plans on the internet to build Planner Boards and I've tried three of them where your boards are offset.I found that the offset Boards pull harder but run farther behind the boat.I use a set now that is parallel and they run up with the boat more .They run the same as ottor boards except probaly not as good in
rough water.I have made mine so they will fold up.Anyone interested in the plans email me. snagged43@yahoo.com

stick with otters...they are way better...track much better than regular boards...have triple planers...they pull terribly on masts...weaken the masts..have had my masts rewelded at least twice...they do not track well in waves over 1 1/2 ft....otters do much better...everyone but one poster seems to agree with me who have had both types...steve

i started out the year running otters, they pull great but they like everything else have there weakness. they pull so smooth and easy that they dont have enough restance to pull anything that pulls hard against them. i like to run divers off boards and they pull back to easy for this type of running. thats why im building a new set of boards that should be big enough and pull hard enough to run this way. if these dont work, i will build somthing else till i get a set that will. i found that in the spring while running a spread of 8 deep diver cranks(4 on each side) behind otters that they just pulled too far back and the line kinda forms a big u in it. they do pull very well in rough water and retrieve better than any ive ever seen, just dont fit into my needs. normal use, great boards !!
