I know, I know...its a little early yet. But I was wondering if there was anyone who lived by a lake near the Detroit area, maybe in Oakland or Livingston county that could give me a heads up as to when the safe ice is here. Sure would beat driving out there myself just to check.

-thanks in advance

Dont get excited any time too soon. I live on a lake south west of that area, and we have NONE!! The wind has been blowing everyday and night since it got cold, and none can form. Ive seen a few small farm ponds in the area that have about 2 inches on them, but thats it.

I got a report from a very good source that the ice should be safe enough around Grosse Ile for some perch. Check with Bottom Lime Bait & Tackle. (734) 379-9762 Tight Lines, Bo #582

Looks good for the smaller lakes that hid areas from the wind with the frozen slush we are getting on top of what ice is already there should be fishing available by the new year. Getting the snowblower, shovel, tip ups and ice rods out today. White christmas at that snowed every day on now.

Live in northern Oakland County on Lake Orion. No ice. Smaller lake nearby has skim ice 80% overall, but we are a good 5 - 7 days away yet. I can't believe there is any ice safe enough around Grosse Ille right now.

Perchjerker,

Quick update - Whompler's and Vineyard lakes are frozen over with about 4" of ice. Not enough up here yet. Heard today that somebody went out on Lake St. Claire from Grosse Point - haven't found him yet!

North lake in Stoney creek metro park frozen over. South lake still a bit to go.Should be good next week.I know of a couple of lakes in Bald Mountain rec. that freeze very quickly before others do.
