Is there anyone out there who would like to share some info on muskie fishing this river. I troll Lake St. Clair out of belle river and do catch fish, but i much prefer to cast for my ski's vs. trolling. Would love to give it a try this summer. Patterns, locations, presentations, ect..........
Milwaukee Muskie expo starts tommorrow, I can finally go get a fix. Oh yeah, I'm from S.E. wisconsin
Thanks for any info and tight lines to all

Brown,
If you are interested in fishing the lower Detroit River I can give you some information. I would recommend that you try during the fall the season does not open till the first Saturday in June, by then the river can become very busy. Most muskies are caught by walleye anglers, so areas where walleye are caught are a good starting point. Weed areas near current breaks and transition areas shallow to deep are also good. My biggest fish was caught in an area where I had been catching walleyes for years, 47" unsure of the weight CLR. The Hotspot map that is producted for the Detroit River will show many of the areas where these fish have been caught. There aren't many individuals out fishing for muskies/pike so it is hard to gauge numbers but ther are some big fish caught every year. The main reason I would also recommend the fall is that the boat traffic would be significantly less in late September, October, and November. The season closes December 15. Remember also that you should also purchase a Canadian license so you can fish the entire river. If you have any addtional questions feel free to email me at laryfine@hotmail.com or blesner@bop.gov.

Your best bet is trolling. Casting is my favorite too. But trolling sseems to be the best bet there. For what we have experienced at least.
