View Full Version : "Zen Masters" - Why the dumb responses to legitimate posts?

As a new board visitor (haven't figured out how to register yet), I posted a legitimate question about vehicles on this site. So far, I have received 33 responses to my question. About half of them were totally worthless responses with BS answers or some sort of "Zen meditation" which made no sense at all. On the other boards, I do not see these kind of responses. Why here? Are all the yo yos on this board?

It's almost as bad as having a woman in the boat!!!!

Perhaps they feel that your question belongs on the general discusion board at Walleye Central, not on the more dedicated Muskie board.

Registration isn't that tough, keep trying. I've been lobbying for the same "on message" stuff, but to no avail. Occasionally I succomb to temptation and can't help but respond to some of the things that pop up. In general, the really wacky stuff is on the walleye general discussion board (last week we got to learn from a guest user how he ruined his first marriage, still doesn't trust himself around women by himself, and other simpy soap opera stuff). Personally, I believe the personal relationship crap and most of the self-absorbed political nonsense doesn't belong, but others do feel differently. Sorry for jumping in off of your topic, but it seemed to have already taken a long turn down the wrong path! Posting to boats and motors on the walleye board seems to generate MANY more responses to the type of question you were asking and, in general, direct responses. However, the musky board seems to do a good job more often in scaring off the garbage, although you can search the archives for some pretty lively musky fishing arguments with threat to life and limb that were fairly entertaining. Enjoy.

How many times can we post the difference between tuff line and power pro. Sure we get off the beaten path sometimes and post kooky stuff big deal. It`s just a muskie board and they are just people posting. We aren`t politicians why should we always be politicaly correct and boreing?

Sorry, B_Ugly, now Musk Rat has us confused, I wouldn't want to be confused with me, either. Good luck with registration, all others are encouraged to do so. Musk Rat --- you could make millions as a faith healer, good at resurrection of these allegedly dead posts of yours! Mine is dead now- have to watch the rest of Fishing the Midwest.

This is what to expect from this board, others have their own styles as well. Depending on your question some boards are better then others, you need a bit of time to find out wich is wich. This is definatly the slower kinda wacky one. :+

Keep releasing them all

My question is a simple one, yet complex; it appears you have answered your own thoughts! You do not wish to hear from the Chou Lin family, yet you ask us why we post? You want to hear what you DO NOT want to hear, bringing you back to where you started from. Our ways may be different, yet it seems you do not wish us to respond; will one always receive the perfect answer to his or her question? Perhaps you should include a list of posters that you prefer to answer your questions; those of us who are not included will bid your wish and find other ways to busy ourselves. Stupidity is measured in the individual, but cannot be determined by one alone; the joy of a response may cause bitter anquish in another; yet who can judge a post by its content if there is not counsel in more than one? There is wisdom in the advice of many; some better than others; to obtain "gold", one must refine the ore and remove the dross, may I suggest you do the same, because until you do, your search for what you seek will be a never ending one. We came here to serve, and are grateful we live in such a land as to be free to speak; I can only hope you are as grateful....

I am not a Zen Master, but a historian, and my records reveal that this exact same question was posed on other boards, yet under a different name! Registration on the other boards is VERY simple, why did you not do so there? You have posted from one extreme to the other;Handsome musky man verses B Ugly...once one decides who he is, then he is better able to determine what he seeks, and once you find yourself, we too will know who you are, and will be better able to answer your questions. We are here to help you find yourself, but only you can be you...might I add that Jim the moderator knows who "we" are, and has not found "us" guilty, and once one has been around a short period of time, will know who "I" am!;)

Possibly after they read my lucid, clear, and well thought out reply on the 101 board they felt they could only add humor........in all seriousness sometimes after some one gives a really good and correct answer there will be few posts to follow as the question has been answered and most of the guys visit all of the major boards.

I thought I could really start something with the "almost as bad as a woman in the boat", but it didn't work. Actually, I enjoy the yo yo responses too (sometimes). However, I'm still not sure about the vehicle to purchase. Anybody have a legitimate url for vehicle invoice prices that is free?

Surprised that only one of you picked up on the multiple names.

Try www.kbb.com. This is the Kelly Blue Book site. It gives new and used car pricing. A short, on target message from Muskie Central.

Try www.edmunds.com. I feel it is the most accurate site as far as what you really will or should pay.

I use Edmunds.com for car prices. They give you dealer invoice, sticker, and actual selling prices. They also give you current customer and dealer incentives including rebates, dealer cash, and special financing. Their web site is set up so you can customize options, to get numbers on the vehicle you're looking at precisely as it's actually equipped. With this information, you know what other people are actually paying for the exact vehicle you're looking at, to give you an idea of what is a fair price on the vehicle.

I have bought two new vehicles in the last 18 months and I did extremely well on the prices on both of them. I bought a new 2001 Ford Taurus in October 2002 for $15,810. I bought a new 2003 Ford Ranger in January 2003 for $19,000.00, this is extended cab 4x4 with towing and off road packages. From Edmunds.com I knew the dealer invoice on this vehicle was $22,664 and there is a $3000 rebate thru 3/31/03. I don't think the dealer lost money on it, there surely was some hidden dealer cash or holdback somewhere that didn't show up in the publicly available information, but I know their profit wasn't much because they wouldn't take $1 less for it when I tried to get them lower. How I got these great prices? By establishing contact over the internet with the dealer's internet/fleet sales manager, who makes his money from volume instead of margin, instead of a lot salesman who sells fewer units and needs a higher margin. By doing that you are getting the price a fleet buyer pays.

So there are two pieces to unraveling the car price puzzle. Getting the invoice price from Consumer Reports, Edmunds, or one of the other companies that provide this info to consumers, and dealing with an internet salesman instead of walking onto the lot.

Good info. I am looking for a new vehicle too. Sounds like you got a good deal on the Ranger. From what I've heard, the dealer holdback is 2-3 percent of the price. Sounds like there were some hidden incentives there and you got part of them! Tom

For what it's worth, I got both vehicles from Dan Lozott (e-mail: LozottD@AutoNation.com) at Prestige Ford in Bellevue, Washington. This info isn't useful if you live in MN or WI, but a few guys on this board are Pacific NW like me and if you're looking for a Ford e-mail Dan & tell him I sent ya.

I appreciate the good info. you gave on this board. It's very helpful to me also, since I'm in the market for a car here in Maryland. Tom
