Happy Holidays!

I'm moving to Fergus in a few weeks and would like to know who has the best bait in town. I fish for panfish quite a bit and would like to support the local guys if they carry good grubs and spikes and nice small crappie minnnows when needed.

Thanks.

There really isn't one in town. Holiday downtown has the best selection of bait IMHO. Lakeway Market on county 1 just on the east edge of town is OK. Pebble Lake Take 5 on the south edge of town is OK too. Fleet has the best tackle selection. If you're outside of town, Ben's Bait in Battle Lake is a great shop. The Conoco (?) in Underwood. There are a few good shops around Otter Tail lake, which I'm drawing a blank on. Ken's is one, I think. Keop's in Clitherall.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

Can't think of the name of it off hand, but there are two bait shops (bait, not big tackle stores) who have good bait in Dalton, about 10 miles S/SE of Fergus, right off the freeway.

Pomme de Terre is pretty good I hear, but I have never fished it, nearby. Also, we have had great fishing on Pelican Lake the past couple springs and this last fall (while the duck hunting stunk) was just fantastic for walleyes. Clitherall is good in the spring, but it takes some time to find them, but a local buddy does real well.

We have cauht some nice eyes on Clear Lake near Dalton, but never many, and usualy aftear dark.

Only fished Ottertail once, but we did great once we went shallow with cranks instead of deep with live bait. This was in the late spring, early summer. Realy cool lake! :)

You will like the area. When the Dakotas dry up a bit more, the duck hunting is great. Right now (past few years) has really been poor duck hunting for us.

Have fun,

Box,

Please send me an e-mail. I'd like to bend your ear about fishing Pelican. My buddy has a cabin on Christina and we've thought of learning this lake but haven't fished it yet.
