GPS Garmin Etrex

My friend just got the new Garmin Etrex and when I was setting it up for him, I could not get it to lock into any satellites. I moved the home position to where we are and it still would not lock in after 1 hour. Is there any advice out there as to what may help? I did try it outside with only obstructions on one side. 270 degrees of viewing area is wide open.

Which model Etrex did he buy?

I don't have it now and forgot to look which version of ETREX. I did however set it on his dash of his rig and today when he left it finally locked in. I suppose it just had to search for awhile. It did take longer than any I have ever used before. Well over 1 hour. I told him to keep a close eye on it and make sure it doesn't take more than a minute or two to lock in now that it has found its' home. Should be good though.

I used one on my polar bear hunt this spring in the arctic. Seemed to work fine up there. I think your problem is solved now that it has initialized the first time.
