During muskie season, I mostly do fish for muskies. The only way (during muskie season) that I can fish for other species is to go to a lake that does not have muskies. I have tried walleye fishing on Mille Lacs and Bass fishing on Alexander, but it never lasts for more than 30-45 minutes.

The only exception would be fishing cats on the Mississippi. I haven't figured out where the muskies are on the river, so when I go fish cats, that's what I do. I figure that once I figure out the river fish, catfishing will pretty much come to an end.

Outside of muskie season though, I fish for anything that will bite and pull hard. This year, I am really looking forward to chasing sturgeon and flatheads. Yesterday on Bucher's show, he was fishing for sturgeon on one of the segments, that looks fun, pulls hard, jumps and can be caught with nightcrawlers. Cool.

I also enjoy pursuing carp. I probably make more carp trips in a season than any other species. The trips are usually short, though. We can hit a spot for an hour or 2, 2-3 times a week, as opposed to muskies, which are an all day kind of thing. I can be on a river spot in less than 10 minutes, so it is a hard opportunity to ignore. Plus, I get lots of practice battling big fish.

I all depends on what time of day and how the walleyes are eating!

I can't believe how low the number of 100 there is. I was sure there would be a lot more of us, I have not fished for anything else since my first 20 pounder some 9 years ago.

Keep releasing them all

When the muskie season is open I fish almost 100% for muskies. However, in December and January I ice fish for walleyes, saugers, and lake trout. February and March I fish for stripers in Kentucky, with a couple of trips for Kentucky muskies. In April I fish for sturgeon and walleyes on the Rainy river waiting for ice out on Whitefish Bay. In May it's Lake Trout for 4-5 weeks or so till the smallies move up. Then it's smallies and walleyes from about June 5th or so till muskie season (third Saturday in June). Then muskies till ice up.

Keep me pretty busy.

I live in the heart of steelhead country in Ohio so I'd be foolish to pass up that opportunity. I also fish smallies in the river nearby after work in the summer. I'll even catch a few perch in the spring and fall. Lake Erie is about 3 miles from my front door. The nearest muskie lake for me is about 50 miles. If it was closer, my percentages would change dramatically.

I have a creek and a lake by my house that I will bass fish during the week. 4 years ago, I caught 257 bass fishing during the week. I musky fish exclusively on weekends in the boat.

I fish muskies a bit more than 50% of the time. Last Season 132 days on the water: 69 days on muskie lakes 226 ski's. The remaining 63 days we fished for everything else. Haven't caught a stripper yet.
I guess I'm just easy. :9

I'm not real sure exactly what the % would be. I live in Algoma, WI right on the shores of Lake Michigan so I spend considerable time fishing for trout and salmon on the Lake. I go up north to Vilas county WI for musky fishing, usually 7-10 days in the springtime, another 7-10 days in the fall and several weekend trips during the summer period. I supposed I'd average somewhere between 30 to 40% chasing after ole' snaggletooth. If I were closer to the musky grounds, I'm sure I'd spend much more time at it, as I prefer fishing muskies to any other species.

I only fish for other species because here in MN its usually three to four weeks between the Northern Pike/Walleye opener and the Muskie opener. After that its all Muskies for me.

I'm 100% musky fishing when the season is open. But that's only 3/4's of the year. Just before ice up and after musky closes I do a ton of rainbow trout and splake fishing. In the winter and spring I'll fish lakers, specks, splake and bows. I'll usually make the 2 hr drive for some steelhead in the spring and salmon in the fall at least once. Sucker and smelt runs are fun too. Spring ice out pike is a blast and one of these springs I'm going to get over to Deux Rivier (sp?) on the Ottawa for some sturgeon.
