On a whim, I bought the most recent issue of Michigan Hunting and Fishing magazine. Just can't resist those "Best Winter Lakes for (insert species)." Under walleye, they once again list Kent Lake in Milford as a top spot. Now, I'm aware they've stocked this lake for several years, and I've heard the annual discussion about "more walleye per acre than Lake Erie", but I spend perhaps a dozen days annually ice fishing this lake and have never taken, nor seen taken, any walleye. Crappies, gills and northerns for sure.
Anyone out there target this lake for walleye with success? Or is this more MDNR rhetoric (anyone really believe we have 1.8 million deer)?

I do know a guy I work with who lives in Milford and goes after them in the soft water season, gets one or two everytime out, but he has scouted the lake very well, he says they are very location specific around the old river channel. He never limits out, but he does get them.

Tom:
I fished Kent Lake a lot 25-30 years ago, but mainly for crappie and bass. Perchjerker's reply is consistent with what I knew; there are walleyes in there, but you have to work pretty hard for them.

Kent and Stoney Creek might fish the same, the stocks are their and the average fish on Kent runs 17-19 inches with 3lb to 6lb frequent. These lakes can be tough no doubt. Limits are rare unless your up to fishing 24 hours at a whack. I look for one or two and with all the 13 inch fish that think they own this type of water you will know when to move. Look for larger fish to move slightly further off the drop. Oddly enough seems as though the big fish move right at sunset and are fed out well before darkness, then the little guys hit right into the dark. Walleyes in weeds get pretty mousey, larger weed pockets near the deep edges can hold the good fish all day but those shallow fish spook real easy and it's my suspicion that they stay out till dark. Drat!
