QUESTION:

Anyone out there come up with a real good/safe way to clean up those walleye rods? I usually spend some time each winter getting my gear together for the coming season and one of the things I look forward to least is getting and eighth of an inch of petrified shiner scales off of my jigging and rigging rods. I've been reluctant to use cleaners, and certainly no abrasives, for fear of damaging the finish on the rod. So I usually just use warm water and a soft cloth. It gets it done but you can spend a lot of time and effort with this method. In fact, I find I need to get this done by mid February or so in order for the feeling to return to my hands in time for the April bite on the Detroit River.

I appreciate your tips and secrets on this topic!

A mild dish soap won't hurt your rods.

Cleepshaw,

Use a Microfibre cloth & warm water with a very small amount of dish soap.
Also works better than anything else I have tried for cleaning up the boat( both glass & aluminum )Make it shine like new!!
Good luck,

Bruce
