I have a 2000 GMC Sierra Extended Cab and when the temps are below freezing I have alot of problems with the rear(3rd & 4th) doors closing tight, they latch but not air tight and also rattle. Has anyone else had any problems? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

I went for a ride in a friends the other day - it was making the wind noise you describe - turned out to be the rubber moulding above the door.

During cold weather my '99 Silverado rear door is a little difficult to get the top latch to engage. The best technique I have found is to place my hand on the forward edge of the door about half way down the window (8-10 inches from top of door). I then close the door the last 6-12 inches with a firm push. I believe that when the seal is cold it is not flexible enough to allow the top latch to lock easily. It seems that this latch needs to be adjusted this way to seal out wind noise. I have had some warranty rework on these seals, but this door has been this way since new. Hope this helps.
I have the same exact problem with mine. To get mine closed I grab the rear door towardes the bottom and slam it shut pretty hard and sometimes it take a couple times to get it to shut properly. I know a few people that have this problem with the 2000's. I wonder if the dealer service departments have a fix for this problem?

I had the same problem with my 2000 silverado, dealer put new latchs on and have not had a problem since. I could not shut the doors tight, had to slam them not no more.

Same trouble with my 2000 silverado sounds like a common problem. I slam it very hard to get the latches to catch...

Same problem with my 2000. The bottom latch on either door won't catch well unless I hold the door down low when closing. If either the upper or lower latch don't catch the front door won't seal properly. Took me a while to figure out why there was so much wind noise, especially on the passenger side. Think I'll check with my dealer to find out if there's a recall or free fix for this.

I had problems with rear door on passenger side not latching in cold weather no matter how hard it was slammed. Took it back to dealer and they replaced the door hinges under warranty. They said it is a common problem. Since getting the new hinges last winter no problem closing door tight.

I also have the same problem on a 2000 GMC. The previous poster was correct it is the hinges. GMC has a technical service bulliten out for the problem.

I went to that URL and it wasn't available. Is there any other recall on the 2000 chev or Gmc? Thanks

Call your dealer with your VIN and speak with the service manager - they should be happy to tell ya what, if any, recalls apply to your vehicle. I've not seen a free site which lists this information. I'm not saying there isn't one, however!

Please do not confuse a technical service bulliten with a recall. The TSB's are issued by the factory regarding problems which may be common in a vehicle but do not meet the criteria for a recall. This means if it is not warranty work you may pay. Your dealer can access them or can any mechanic who has a database like All Data. Most likely if you call your dealer they will not give you a list of all TSB's because there are tons of them and very few or none may apply to your vehicle.
This link will bring you to a list of tsb's for GM trucks.

Just give the number of the TSB to the dealer regarding your specific question.

Well call me stupid! I just thought that the extended cab doors closed harder because of the design. Now I am past warranty and it will cost me to fix it huh? %$#^%^%^*(&^%#@%$%$*$%^%%%

Has anyone had any other trouble with their newer Chev or Gmc?

At the risk of facing slings and arrows, the rear doors on my Dodge work just fine in any weather. My suggestion, check out the "New Mayor of Truckville"!!
good luck!!

This was a problem in the first models, but my 2001 doesn't have it. Your dealer can fix it quickly.
