View Full Version : Left handed trolling reels?
I am looking for a good left handed trolling (or level wind) reel to use for trolling cranks. However, this is turning out to be harder than I thought as reels in this size and type are not all that common. Looking for something with about 350/14 capacity.
Anybody know/use such a unit they would recommend?
Thanks,
mtd

MTD,
I know Penn makes there 320GTI in a left handed model, (actually a 321, i think).
ALso abu-garcia has several models available in left hand style.
I'm left handed but always crank with my right. I tried some left handed reels but couldnt get use to them and they gave my right handed fishing partners fits, so i sold them.
I am not for sure but the biggest I know of from abu garcia is the 6501 and I think it only holds 245 yds of 14 lb test. a great real though tuff as nails. Good luck let me know what you come up with because I have looked for the same thing. Not many out there

I have found that the Abu Garcia 6500/01 is a superb reel(6501 is the left handed version.). It has handed big fish very well. I troll with Abu Garcia's 6500/01's in Lake Michigan (salmon up to 35 pounds, steelhead, brown trout, lake trout) and inland waters (walleye) and have yet to find a fish that I could not handle with the AbuGarcia 6500's with 14lb and 17lb test line. And, the size of the 6500's is such that they fit you hand really well...the comfort of the reel and its light weight means you or our kids can fish with it all day...in the holder or in you hand.
