What coverage! Watching it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The air coverage is something else. Glad I saw the reminder on this post. ITS GREAT just like being there.

most will say "winning isn't everything". very few will say "it's
the only thing". paul meleen comes from the same mold that put both
phrases into the same sentence...

I can't believe the rcl jerked meleen the way they did!! He was the only MAN to live with his decision to run in the bad weather. The other 5 guys stopped and said they could't make it back, while he goes and fishes and gets back in time for weigh in. They trailer 4 of the other fisherman back to river so they could fish for 3 hours. If I'm Meleen I'm ticked, that should have been his CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!
I have fished in 50 tournaments and have never heard of trailering
people back to launch so they could fish somewere else. Those 4 guys should have been man enough to live with ther decision to run in bad
waves and turn around and go back to river and fish for as long as they could. I know some guys who fished that tournament, and they couldn't trailer ther boats back when it got to rough to get back.
So they lost ther weight for the day, and they lived with it because it was ther decision to go out in the rough water. Please tell me if I'm wrong?

i'd like to hear comments, positive or negative, and ideas for the future, about the production end of the show. what if anything, should be added or dropped? where should there be more focus? more fishing?
more behind the scenes stuff regarding the players? more of the exciting boat rides? more human interest stuff like if holly, pauls expectant wife, would have been interviewed? what would it take for the 'general'public(non anglers) to have more interest in this type of event coverage?
this info is important regarding the growth of competitive fishing.

if you read the 2001 rules.."contestants who elect to return to the official check-in by other means than cited above (another pro's boat etc)will forfeit that day's catch to that point in time of the tournament day. any contestant returning to the check-in point will be eligible to resume competition"..etc etc etc.
your friends could have returned by trailer if they had enough time to go back out and fish. they would just lose the catch so far. it's much safer to have boats/contestants return by trailer than rough dangerous seas. (PWT was hammered for this in this site) if i had the choice (which in most tourney's you don't, but this one you do) i'd absolutely return back by trailer and go fishing than to have to risk trying to run back. i've been out in water like paul was in, and i don't care to ever have to do it again...not worth it to me. just MHO

many of us 'veterans' would agree with you. but IT'S OVER. let's look up to the winners because that's what they are. now, let's work toward
the future events, making sure that all the aspects of the game and all the various parties that make it happen, come together and improve things if and where there is a need.

They could have added a P.S. that Paul and Holly had a little girl. Also an update on Zollar, he ended up with motor trouble I think.I thought that overall it was a great show.

In truth, there was a problem with this whole scenario. I live in the area and checked the NOAA Marine forecast for the day. It was for gale force winds with waves of 4-8'. It also stated a small craft advisory was in effect. My understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that any watercraft less than 65' are, by law, not allowed on the water during a small craft advisory.

At the very least, the competitors should have been restricted to the river for the day. Having fished all the RCL events last year and knowing how conservative (and rightly so) the tournament directors and organizers are, I'm surprised they were allowed to leave the river.

Was this the RCL champ rules, if so thanks for correcting me. And if the winds were blowing at 30 mph the guy was right, they should have been restricted to the river for the final day. At least they did have good contact with the fisherman, to know they were doing ok. Thanks again for correcting me, I'm man enough to admit when i'm wrong.
