Back to back uni Knot. No Glue.

He's right, a uni to uni knot is the way to go. It's very strong and you don't need glue. I've never had a problem with it.

Just finished putting 17lb TrileneXL under 80 PowerPro. I used the back to back Uni knot. Do you heat the tag end of the mono to make a ball on the tip...to possibly prevent the mono from sliding through?

I've never heated the line so I'm not sure how that would work. When I use the uni knot to attach superbraid to backing I always spool at least 100 yards of superline on, and for most situations the knot never comes off the spool. If I need to troll a very long line, I use reels that I've filled with 300 yards of braid. It's doubtful that the strength of the knot will ever come into question as long as you spool enough line on the reel for the type of fishing that you're doing.
Even so, the knot is a strong one. I use it to attach florocarbon leaders to light superline on my spinning reels for jigging and drop shotting for bass. I've landed a lot of big bass and I've never had a failure, keeping in mind that the connection is on the end of a 5-6 foot length of much lighter line than you'd use for musky fishing. Good luck.

I use a Blood knot. If the diameter difference is large, I will double up the thinner line. I use it to tie various lines together from joining 4x fly tippet to leaders to 80# Whiplash to 20# mono backing. I've never seen a Blood knot fail unless it was tied incorrectly.
