Fence is in Flambeau on the chain. Lots of cisco and smelt...what do you think?

While we're on the subject of this lake, I've heard of some bad experiences at the ramps on this chain. Vandalism and breakin's. Can any one out there either confirm this or share their experiences. I'm planning on fishing it thsi November. Thanks, Brown

been doing a lot of work on Fence this year and live close by. Heard the same talk for years....yes it does happen but really no more than it does anywhere else you have punk kids and liquor. I just asked the same question you did to a lake resident about the thourofare landing and he was oblivious to anything bad happening, but how often would he use it? Right, only twice. I would tend to think that most cases of vandalism would probably take place on warmer summer nights..I used to hit Little Trout in the morning well before dawn and never would see a soul but I never tried it at dusk and that lake is WAY out in the sticks. Here's a thought...Fence can be acessed from the campground landing on 47 right in town between Pokegema and Flambeau lakes, it's a little haul by water but there is a full time attendant there. Many guides I know use this landing. That whole chain is rich in forage with deep well oxygenated water...I personally know of 3 fish over 40lbs that have been taken there. Needless to say you won't be thinking about your truck until you're heading back to the landing.

180, thanks for the information. I've had problems when hunting, they broke in and took everything, but I've never had problems at a boat launch. I really don't want to start now.
These cool days and nights has really started that fall itch. It will be intresting to see waht the weather is like with the way its been all year. Some of our trees down here in southern Wisconsin have all ready started to change. I think winter will come early.
I'll look into that launch at the campground. Can't wait to fish this chain come cold water.
Thanks

I fished Fence a couple of times. Johnson Wax owns a resort there and I have several family members that work for Jwax and use the resort.....
Anyways.... to me, Fence is alot like many of the Minnesota muskie lakes. Lots of deep water, loads of great weedbeds, etc. I also do not remember seeing alot of other people on the water... maybe it was the time of the year we were there...
If I remember correctly, there is a tiger muskie line class record out of Fence.
If I had to muskie fish in Wisconsin, Fence and the Flambeau chain would be my 1st choice.

Hey 180, We're headed up on Oct.11th for 4 days, then we're coming back up for 8 days on Oct.28th. Maybe we'll be able to hook up. I've got my buddy coming along, he's flying in from Guam. I've tried talking him into fishing the cold weather for years, I've finally convinced him although he is a little leary about the weather. The coldest he ever gets is upper 70's. I told him I'd bring the propane heater along. Should be fun. If you'd like, e-mail me at Brown_e@hotmail.com, we can share some info. Otherwise I'll look for the Champion. We'll be in a black and silver 17' Lund Pro-V. Don't catch them all before we can get there.
