I'm looking to add another reel to my arsenal and am going to use it on a medium light rod mostly with 10 lb fireline and 4 lb. mono. This weekend I lost a huge fish (okay it was a trout) because my current reels drag seemed inconsistent. I would like to spend under $100 if I can help it.
Thanks.

Cabelas has the Ahab Mega-Lite's on sale for $139 right now. This is the finest drag out there.

I bought a couple Penn skirted spool spinning reels this spring, and I'm impressed with the drag. If the total anti-reverse feature is important, their Prion series offers that for more money. Cabela's has them.

Give a try to the new Centre Drag reels from Abu-Garcia. The CD-4 and CD-6 models are affordable. rawburt

Cabelas has the Daiwa SS tournament for $89 in the spring master catologe. i think you'll find this reel has the finast drag on the market. at that price buy two!

I agree, that is an excellent reel. If I was going to stay under $100, that would be my choice. I have lost faith in my Shimano's. The last three reels I have bought have been defective.

What is difference between: front drag, center drag, or rear drag? I understand the location, but which one is smoother? What I'm looking for is a drag that remains the same throughout the fight. My current reel takes more of pull to get it going then when it is going it doesn't have as much drag, so I tighten it down during the run, then when the fish stops and takes off again, SNAP goes my line!

The rear drag has a smaller drag pad than a front drag reel which has a smaller pad than a center drag reel.Maybe your drag pads are worn?

You can't go wrong with the Pinnacle Dead Bolt series. The regular Dead Bolt has a super smooth drag and runs you $53.00 at B.P. or the Dead Bolt Limited (DNL) which is their top of the line for $89.99 at Cabela's or $93.00 at B.P. If you want a sharp looking fine quality reel go with the limited. If you just want a good reel that isn't real expensive go with the regular Dead Bolt (DNF). I just upgraded all my reels to Pinnacles just because of the smoothness and the awsome drags they have. I couldn't afford the Limited series, so I just went with the regular Dead Bolts. I also picked up 4 of the Vision series at a close-out place, cheap, and am really impressed with them also.
Try one and you will really like them. They also have an outstanding customer service from what I have heard.

Go to "www.abu-garcia.com" and read all about the new centre drag reels.

Ok my first suggestion is look at the Fin-Nor Ahab lite, questlite, or the megalite. My uncle owns one of theese very smooth setup. if you goto w w w . tackledirect . c o m you will find them there. you will get a good deal there to i think under this site you either get a free spool or a free rod with the purchase of the reel. Well my First choice but, probally everyone elses third or least than that is my Okuma avenger. Very nice & steal ball bearings, nice front drag, every thing is strong a lite on it. go to w w w .okumafishing. c o m the avenger series runs for $50 if you goto w w w. worldwideangler. c o m and go under the tackle market under there you can buy them there. if you have any questions about the reel e-mail john @ okumafishing. c o m he was a very big help to me. tell him Adam lundsten sent you too.
