I am thinking of building a rod for fishing pike. I will be using jerkbaits with this rod. It will not be used for muskies. What would you recommend for length, action, and power. Also what about the length on the handle. Thanks

What baits are you going to throw with the rod. Size matters when it comes to rods.

For Pike a medium heavy 6'6" rod should do a good job for just about any presentation.
Handle length is a personal preference, as we all are different. I like my handles in the 14" or 15" range, makes it a lot easier to work big baits, without wearing yourself out.:P

I will be using baits like the 7 and 9 inch suicks and reef hawgs. I will not be using any of the bigger musky baits.

I agree with guideman. I personally like to use a rod with a softer tip and a lot of backbone. I think the softer tip gives the bait better action. I throw suicks with a 7' medium action Ugly Stick Pro. They are not as soft as a Ugly stick. The 7' rod helps with the hookset. I have also thrown them on a 6'6" St Croix Bucktail rod and 30lb mono.
