TOP 10 CAMP WALLEYE QUESTIONS
Thank you all for the many e-mails I have received from my post last week!!
TOP 10 CAMP WALLEYE REASONS:
What I would like to do is post some of your questions with return answers and by doing so, hopefully give everyone some ideas for what to expect at our Camp Walleye events.
1) Question: I will be traveling from Dallas to attend the Totem Camp - where do I fly to?
Answer: There are really three options, International Falls, Duluth and Minneapolis.
I would suggest landing in Minneapolis the morning of July 25 and departing the evening of July 28 from Minneapolis. This would probably be the best solution from a cost and scheduling position. You will still need a rental car, however, rates today are very reasonable.
2) Question: My fishing pals and I have never caught a fish over 8 lbs. Where should we go to accomplish this dream?
Answer: The Detroit River or Sturgeon Bay should give you the best shot at an 8+ with the chance to catch a 10 always a possibility.
3) Question: Will you be attending all of the All Canada Shows?
Answer: Yes, Sonja, Wayne and other Walleye Central folks including myself will be at all of these shows. We look forward to seeing you all and saying “Hi”.
4) Question: What should we expect at the Wisconsin Dells for weather?
Answer: March in the Dells can bring everything from 60 degrees and sweatshirts to 20 degrees and snowmobile suites. Two important ingredients to consider at the Dells:
* LOTS OF FISH - This water has numbers
* LOTS OF FUN – The Dells is much like Disneyland with many good restaurants and all sorts of entertainment from inside water-slides to slot machines. A great way to start the new year!
5) Question: I am bringing 5 of my customers and none of us have boats. Which camp do you feel we should consider?
Answer: Both of the summer camps, LAKE OF THE WOODS and RAINING LAKE will have boats available for your group. They will have a daily fee per person but I think that you will find that the additional cost is very reasonable.
6) Question: How far is Detroit River from Chicago?
Answer: The facilities (hotel & Camp) during our Detroit River camp are located one-half-hour south of downtown Detroit. So in planning I suggest using Detroit as your destination.
However, this chart might help:
Chicago – 4 hours
Milwaukee – 6 hours
Minneapolis – 12 hours
7) Question: Four of us are planning on attending one of your camps. We have 2 die-hard fishermen and 2 social-anglers that might want to bring their golf clubs. Please give me an idea or two.
Answer: Here is two: IZATY’S at MILLE LACS – 36 holes or ALPINE at STURGEON BAY – 27 holes. I have played IZATY’s and viewed ALPINES – both of them are challenging and beautiful with time after fishing to enjoy a round of golf.
8) Question: How will the seminars with the pros be presented?
Answer: During every meal (9 in total) the pros will be sharing their tips and secrets for how to catch more walleyes as well as sharing thoughts on boats, motors, fishing equipment and techniques. Also each person attending camp will share a ˝ day with a pro either in their boat or in the pro’s boat learning everything from jigging to who’s going to win the World Series. I will go out on a limb by making this statement, however, my feeling is that you will learn more about fishing walleyes than you would have ever imagined. I say this because I have fished all of these waters and know all of the pros. You ABSOLUTELY will head home with fond memories and lots of stories.
9) Question: I gave my family a Camp Walleye trip for Christmas – now I need your help. The kids (7, 10 & 14) and my wife are better walleye anglers than me. Where should we go?
Answer: Both of my suggestions will hopefully work into your kids summer vacation time:
* RAINING LAKE – a good value for anyone’s budget and lots of fish of many species. Also boats available and water that is very accommodating to fish within sight of the lodge. No long travel to catch fish, AND catching won’t be a problem with breathtaking views everywhere!!
* LAKE OF THE WOODS – if you want the total package from great fishing to wonderful meals, Totem Lodge is a 5-star resort with 5-star people. You will be very impressed from the minute you arrive until the final departing hug at this quality Canadian experience. In fact, you might plan on never having to buy another Christmas present for the rest of your life.
10) Question: My company wants me to put together a fishing trip with all of our customers. What should I budget for each person, and will the casual fishing person have a good time?
Answer: The actual trip for the cost of Camp will be as follows: The additional expenses will vary according to what you want to provide each of them. I would estimate that on average, once they arrive $100 will take care of everything from refreshments to a few fishing items. However, you might just want to suggest that the Camp is on you and that “extras” are theirs to pay for. By doing this you eliminate the variance in everyone’s specific needs. To address the levels of expertise with your customers fishing skills, I wouldn’t worry -- no matter how much or how little they have fished, they will enjoy every day and every fish caught during Camp.
CAMP WALLEYE COSTS:
Wisconsin River - $699.95
Lake Michigan - $699.95
Mille Lacs Lake - $699.95
Raining Lake - $699.95
Detroit River - $ 699.95
Lake of the Woods - $999.95
In Summary: As the 2002 fishing season becomes a reality and Walleye Central’s Camp Walleyes take place, we look forward to seeing all of you during the year and wish everyone a very HAPPY & SAFE NEW YEAR!!!!
Let’s catch em’ all!!
