Under what conditions do you find topwater baits most effective? Also, when would you use a walk-the-dog type lure (Jackpot) vs. a buzz-type bait such as a Super TopRader?

For my fishing buddies and I, we have had the most luck with topwater baits once the water temps get into at least the low 60s. Into the low 70s is even better because it seems you can increase the lure speeds, and more of your top waters really start to shine. I prefer to use the tail rotating baits as search lures and the walk-the-dog baits as go-back or finesse type lures. However, earlier in the year I might put on a jackpot if my boat partner is using a jerkbait or something else that moves a little slower.

I like to use walk the dog type baits(Jackpot,Doc's) as a toss back bait on follows or at spots that I've seen fish at before. My buzz style baits, I use as search baits.I do catch fish on both but have caught more on walk the dog types.Good luck.
