I need some ideas on where to go for my June walleye trip.
I'll be going with my two sons (13 & 10). I was debating
on whether I should return to the Whitefish Chain or try
something in Canada. Since I'm the only one driving, I'll
be limited on how far I travel because I live in eastern
Nebraska.

Try Big Stone Lake. Its an easy drive and it allows you to acsess all the glacial lakes of NE S.D. Look at www.schmidtslanding.com, or call theGlacial Lakes office at800-244-8860 and they can send you a book that outlines the whole area.

Have you considered Devils Lake, ND? June fishing is awesome on Devils Lake with large numbers and great average size. Having a 100+ fish day is by no means out of the question. With the major flooding we have had here in the past 10 years there is an unbelievable amount of new stuff for the fish and fisherman. We have excellent walleye, northern pike, white bass and even get into the jumbo perch (although that usually doesn't start getting good until mid July). This is a very reasonable destination and you will find it to be alot cheaper than most. This lake is 90% undeveloped and quite a sight. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Chamberlain, South Dakota is incredible in June with 200+ fish(Walleyes) days very possible. Stay at the Hillside Motel right in Chamberlain. One of the best guiding services in the country works out of there and is very willing to give you accurate information as to where the fish are located. Gary Allen owns the motel and service and is great. Last year when we were there some guys from Nebraska were struggling and the guides told them to just follow them. In addition to Walleyes you will catch Catfish and Smallies.

Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota is my suggestion for big Walleyes. Many fish larger than average and water level is lower than normal so finding fish is easier. Fish anywhere from Douglas Bay just west of Garrison good lodging, guides etc all the way west to Beulah/Hazen Bay areas also very accomodating people. If sheer numbers of different species such as Walleye, Tons of Norhtern Pike, and even more White Bass try Devils Lake. Anywhere on Devils Lake is a good start and lots of helpful baitshops and merchants surrond both bodies of water.

Good Luck and give North Dakota a try.:+ :+ :+

May I suggest LAKE MAC as an option for your son's and you , June is very good fishing out here, we catch alot of big Walleye's that time of year, as well as Wipers and Largemouth Bass as a change of pace between the Walleye fishing. This may be a ideal trip for you as I provide lodging, food, tackle, etc. All you have to bring is clothing, I take care of everything else. Also, I will be at the Omaha Sports Show Feb 1-3, so you can feel free to stop by and see me then, or email at express@actcom.net, toll free at 1-866-LAKE MAC. There are many guys from right there in Eastern NE that come out each year, and would be glad to give you a reference. Thank you.
