I gargled with warm salt water 3- times a day and my sore throat was gone in 3 days.I know this sounds like something your mother would have you do but it worked for me.For nasal congestion any over the counter decongestant should do the trick.

I'll second the warm salt water gargle. Works great. A good prevent is to stay loaded on vitamin c. Through the colder parts of the year I take 1000 mg plus 2 fresh oranges daily. When I stay on the c I never pick up a cold.

Sinus colds are infections and need antibiotics. I have just what you have right now and am stalling calling the doctor for a prescription. Keep hoping it will go away on its own. Been taking two different kinds of Tylenol sinus meds.(nondrowsy during the day and drowsy before I go to bed). If I call the doctor I request Zithromax(sp.) which is taken for just 5 days. I've had sinus since a kid and Zitromax works the best for me.

In the future...when you first feel the signs of a cold...start taking an herbal supplement called "echinacea"...its actually the purple coneflower plant. It helps boost your immune system. I take one every morning during the winter along with a multi-vitamin and 500mg of vitamin C and so far, no colds!

Take a hot lemon toddy, good Canadian Rye is the best, honey for sweetener. Vitamin C is a must. That and lots of rest. Take the drink in the evening an hour or so before bed.

flush your sinuses with warm water and a dash of salt, put it in a squirt bottle and plug one side of your nose and flush as much water as you can up the other side. You will be surprised what will come out.

My son has had many sinus infections and a couple of surgeries, both his medical doc and surgeon have recommended this. It does work but is rather uncomfortable to do.

Good luck

This is the one that works for me. Like the writer says, it is a bit painful, a bit messy, but really clears out the nose and sinus drainage. Be sure the water is body temperature.

More. I can't edit it because I'm not at my computer, but I put warm water in a small dish, disolve the salt in it and inhale the mix up one nostal at a time.

I have a few recomendations for you to try. This comes from being a pharmacist for the last 6 years.

A sinus cold is not necessarily bacterial and if it is a true cold and is viral an antibiotic will do you no good. If your snot has any color to it (yellow or green) then it is most likely bacterial infection and an antibiotic may be needed to clear it up.

A lot of people have said the herbals (echinacea) and the zinc do wonders for the cold but you may be wasting your money. There has been some good studies that show they may lessen the duration of the cold but often they are only as good as a bowl of chicken noodle soup and some rest.

As far as medications from your local drug store I would recommend a product called Aleve Cold and Sinus. I have had many people come back into the pharmacy and tell me how great it worked.

I couldn't agree more with those that say gargling with warm salt water works well. I have also used cayanne(?) pepper in place of salt. It is very hot but has seemed to work very well for the very sore throat.

Last but most important in my book is lots of oranges or orange juice. Not only good at fending off colds but good for the body in general.

Echinacea & zinc at first. Now that you have it you will most likely have to ride it out. Chicken soup is now what you need

Be carefull on taking echinacea every day. I've used it and I think it helps, but I think the directions said not to take it over a long period of time.

The high salt concentration helps kill the bacteria that are present. Drink lots of water which will help promote drainage rather than congestion. The old head over a bowl of steaming water approach helps also.

I've had terrible sinus problems most of my adult life.
I've tried most everything and here is what I have found to be
the best long term treatment. It attaches to a waterpik and is much
easier to use then the other methods mentioned for saline water treatment trough the nasal passage.

Works wonders for me.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd avoid having to take that Zithromax antibiotic. That stuff is pretty strong and next thing you know you'll be having stomach and bowel problems along with the sinus cold and sore throat. I guess if it is in fact a bacterial infection you don't have much other choice...except maybe another antibiotic.

As for the sore throat, a numbing spray like Chloraseptic or Halls lozenges work for me. I also second the warm water/salt gargle.
Hot steam showers will help clear up your sinus congestion temporarily as will eating a hot bowl of soup, chili or even a couple of spicy jalapeno peppers.
