The local Fleet Farm has Risto Raps in the bargin bin. Never tried one, and don't know anyone who has. Good price, but if they are junk I don't want them. How deep do they go, what is the action like? Are they any good?
They also have the old style Storm lures on sale. Thundersticks gone except for jointed. What are Hot-n-Tots all about? Any good?
Thanks guys!!

Never caught a walleye on a Risto Rap. I like the jointed T-sticks at times but usually use the Jointed rapala's. Buy all the 1/4 oz. hot-n-tots you can afford IF IF IF they are the old style with the metal lips. Get them in the standard colors you usually use on your lakes or streams. They have a very aggressive wobble and erratic trolling pattern that causes walleye to take notice of them. We catch smallmouth on them fairly often too.

They are junk! This year on butte des mortes, we were trolling 6 lines and had 5 walleyes on at one time. All rods had walleyes on them at the same time except the risto rap! They work alright for bass, but the walleye-repelent paint makes them useless for walleye fishing;-)

Ristos can be found at Dick's sporting goods across America for next to nothing. I guess they just didn't sell for Rapala.
I am looking for Risto Raps in the no. 4 size, the body is only about 1 1/2 in. in length. This fall they were on sale but now I can't seem to find any. I can find the bigger ones but not the smaller ones.If someone knows of some out there Email me at bstandke@vbe.com
Thanks

Risto Raps have work well for me, when CASTING for walleye. Actually, a bud and I did well on them, at the tail end of summer, while casting small Risto's along the deep weed edges. I am not much of a troller, so I have not used them in that situation... ALLTHOUGH... I have done okay on a few lures with very simular body shapes as the Risto's while trolling.

How about other Storm lures, like Thin Fins? There were alot of those in the bargin bin too.
Ditto on the casting. We pulled 2 21"ers out of weed edge on a lake we didn't even know had walleyes one time :) Gervais for any local St. Paul anglers.
We also paint ours to look like perch and they work TONS better. We caught some nice eyes on Whitefish with them. I wish there was a perch pattern.
Trolling at 2.8 mph the big ristos dive about 15-17 feet on heavy fireline. When casting you can get them down to about 15. The smaller ones go about 12 feet trolling or 10-12 casting. The tiny ones (I only have one) go about 8-9 feet casting, not sure trolling.
They work FANTASTIC for bass or northern. And the weight allows you to cast them very, very far which is nice.

I will up with the fellows that like to throw them. I use shad raps going down to 8-9 feet and then switch to Risto raps to go any place where my retrieve will always go below 7 feet or on any flat deeper than 6 feet. They are a solid casting lure and I use the big ones for musky with good effect. Get them and use them on slopes and deeper flats, and working the weed face. Also I concur with the trollers don't use them, if you are trolling deep in open water they will be out produced, and if you are bottom bumping while trolling there are still better choices, including the hot n tots mentioned earlier.

I've caught walleyes in early spring while casting the Risto raps. I don't think they're great, but definately worth $1.99
only had success with the small ones, #4 I guess, big ones are junk.
