Happy New Year all. I'm gonna be in North Dakota for a week in June (my wife has a school reunion) and would love to fish on Devil's Lake. Anybody know of a good guide service where they can take a fisherman out for a day of great fishing? Thanks!

Give Johnnie Candle a buzz, he would be my first choice.

Rent a boat and go on your own. In June Crankbaits will still be working a littles bit, live bait most excellent, and if early June beetle spins and little jigs for white bass up shallow. Also literally anything that moves, smells, or looks good a Northern Pike will hit. No guide needed unless you want the company or to be taught a few tricks if not Devils Lake is literally tens of thousands of acres of mutliple species fish factory.

Enjoy yourself

If you want to you can give me a buzz. I guide out of Minnewaukan and the Flats are where its at. I'm taking delivery of a brand new 2025 Pro V in March so its fishing in comfort. My # is 701-473-2552.

Thanks all for the info. Will probably use a guide the first day and learn something. Never too old or too stupid to learn I figure. Eyeguide, where is Minnewauken? I spent 4 years in Minot, but don't know where Minnewauken is located. Will definitely give you a call as well. Do you have any info on the net?

Any more ideas?

Marc,

Minnewaukan is on the west side of the lake 20 miles from Devils Lake. The Flats are where the pwt and rcl and have their best luck on this lake. There is just an amazing amount of different options on the Flats. Everything from bridges, rockpiles, flooded timber, sunken humps, mud flats and lots of rip rap. This isn't just a biased opinion but the Flats has been the best producer the past 5 years. I don't have a site up at the time but thinking about doing one. If you email or call me I can mail you out a brochure and some area info.

I would also recommend Mr. Candle if he is available in June. I have had the pleasure of fishing with him a few times and you won't find a better teacher or nicer quy.

Good Luck and Good Fishing!

I have a couple of web-sites for ya:

www.fishingbuddy.org or

divils lake guides out of woodland resort at:

http://www.woodlandresort.com/fishingguides.htm

I do know of Jason Mitchell. He is part of the Perch Patrol on Devils Lake(DL) He guides out of woodland. He is a very active guide and writer for some local magazines//newspapers in the area.

I also know of Johnny Candle. He is a current touring PWT. pro and quide.

And the fellow that answered here about Minnewaken Flats knows what he is talking about.

All three would get my call if I was in your situation.

I reccommend Jason Mitchell if he has an opening. His reputation has traveled a long way and speaks for itself. I would contact him right away. Mitchell's Guide Service 701-351-1890

Call Mike Shell at Woodland Resort, or get a hold of Rick Darling from Leeds ND. Unlike a lot of the other guides mentioned above, both of these guys have lived, hunted, and fished DL all their lives. They are by far THE BEST. Mike guides the most of any guide on Devils Lake, and Rick is a top finisher in almost every tournament on the lake. To get more info, check out the Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce's site at www.devilslakend.com.

Good Luck

Definetely go with woodland resort. Mike Schell and Jason Mitchell are by far the top guides on the lake. I say that just becase these guys are extremely busy, catch a ton of fish and are well known. I would defiently call woodland. Johnnie Candle guides on Devils now? he must have just moved their from over on Sak. Good luck, devils is a hoot.
