With all the warm weather we have had lately it has pushed the water temp on our lake to 90 degrees. It is a good muskie lake and the fish have been very active, but I have chosen not to fish in the extreme heat due to stress that it puts on the fish. Does anyone know how much the heat does effect the health of the fish?

Muskies can handle 90 degree water, but not for too long... The larger the muskie is, the more vulnerable it is to warm water conditions. Muskie fishermen in Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa and Missouri are encouraged not to fish for muskies during July and August because of warm water conditions. Muskies caught during these months usually die not long after being caught because of the stress of being caught and released in warm water. Muskies are more of a cold water fish.
