I need some help, I am taking my two boys up to Fireside Lodge for a week of fishing. I am a bigtime muskie fisherman, but my kids are beginners. Does anyone have any insight in fishing the chain of lakes associated with Fireside Lodge. I believe the chain is the Little Vermilian chain of lakes, it is in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Any help would be appreciated.

Sign up for their on-line newsletter, it's a weekly report, pretty. cool. You can ask to be on the list from their website.

I know some people from www.muskiefirst.com have fished it, ask your question there as well. I would really like to go here but 595 each for housekeeping even for little kids is out of my price range.

Could you give me some feedback on your trip. I have been thinking of going up there for a couple of years now. When are ou heading there?

Been there a few times, and the word to the wise is small. Not the fish, but the presentations. You probably cant go wrong with Mepps Musky Killers in single or doubletails, 6" twitch baits, and maybe an occassional suick. We have had some luck on bulldawgs, but all on the medium one.
Find the weed edges and fish them. Try the north shore of Cedarbough back and forth, and try the first of the "musky sanctuary lakes" (name?), both lakes just fishing the weed edges, into the weeds, etc. Alan and Audrey will really show you a great time, but it might be a good idea to call up there first, and ask them what you need to bring. They are very accessable, and interested in making sure you have a successful fishing trip.

I fish the Sioux Lookout area every June for a week. I have had great luck on Big Vermillion. The problem is that I don't think it is connected to Little V. The last two years, I have caught a Muskie within an hour of getting on the water! My biggest is 40", but I have seen some much bigger ones. I don't think many people fish Big V. I have been told there aren't any Walleyes in it. It is world renoun for Lake Trout though. I just don't think it gets any pressure for Muskies. I rarely see any other boats on it.

Also, you can't beat Lac Seul. Again, not connected, but it has HUGE fish in it. Very close to where you are at too.

Good Luck!

We've been at Fireside several times. Alan and Audrey were great hosts and the fishing was good. We caught at least some musky in each one of the lakes. I also caught some really nice smallies! Make sure you fish all of the sanctuary lakes. They may be a bit difficult to get to at times, but its well worth the effort and time. And don't miss fishing Closs Lake. It's a short and easy portage off of Little Vermilion and there is an extra charge, but we've never seen as many muskies in one place. A lot of them were small, but there were also some big ones. Of course they are always finicky and some times they're active in one lake and some times in another, and some times they're just not active anywhere. Good luck and have a great time.
