Hi there, me (45) boys 15 and 8 are going fishing for muskie here in our state.....we have fished over 60 days this year...never for muskie they are only in two water systems in maine. size is 15-25lbs.......

we are using 6 6 spinning reels with 25lb.....what type of lures....but more important what is the terminal tackle i should use.... i was told to put an 18" steel leader after the mono and then the lure.....any help would be appreciated.....they really want to go fishing...

the other thing we were told...is just think of muskie as a huge pickeral

thanks

You must have some crazy pickerel in you area if they match the muskies....wow!!!!

As for the terminal tackle....wire leader is a must and one with good quality snaps and swivels. that won't pull apart...or a leader of flourocarbon line with good snaps and swivels works well and is invisable in the water..keep your hooks razor sharp and make sure your hooks are good quality too..I've seen 20 lb fish turn cheap hooks into wire.

That should land you a fish without breaking the bank....and if you don't,enjoy the day out with your lads,it's time well spent...cheers

If you are using spinning rods with mono, your biggest challenge may be getting a good hookset. Those bony mouths are pretty tough. As Multispecies said, razor-sharp hooks are a must. I'd stay away from the cheap nylon-coated stranded leaders. A good leader in the 75lb.+ range should perform well, and is less likely to kink.
Good luck.
