Hello everyone. I am new to muskie fishing and was getting ready to purchase a reel. Is the D5 ambassadeur 5600 big and strong enough to handle trophy sized fish or should I get the 6600? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Stan

The 5600 is plenty good for musky fishing. Your only real exeption is going to be if you want to troll or use it for sucker fishing, in that case you need a line clicker and it does not come on the 5600 size.

I bought the 5500 C5 for my wife and she loves it. It is small enough to not overpower her and the thumb bar sure makes it easy for her to cast. She caught her first musky using that reel. My larger 6500 series reels were just a bit big and heavy for her. As Todd already mentioned, the 5600 series reels are plenty big enough for musky fishing - especially with the small diameter super braid lines - and the only reason you would need the larger 6500 series reels would be for the bait alarm (clicker) when livebait fishing.

Cheers and tight lines,
Musky Mike

I have two 5600C4's. AWESOME reels. They do have a clicker on it.
