I plan on getting into Watertown Saturday morning, about 9 am. Is there a designated fishing location yet? Hope to meet all you good folks there....

What I'm thinking, is to start on waubay for perch in the morning, and move to bitter in the afternoon for walleyes. There's a good walleye bite on Bitter, I know of one guy that caught 30 walleyes from 14-19 inches in 3 hours in the evening 2 days ago, and a couple of my fishing buddies have been fishing it regularly the last week, and it's been good. Another option is to hit Lynn for a couple walleyes and some good crappies. We'll discuss this some more friday night to get everyone's input.
How early do you all want to start fishing? Leave Watertown about 8:00 am or so saturday morning for waubay?
I'll have my cell phone on friday afternoon and saturday morning, for any early or late arrivals, the number is 605 881 8686.
Dutch, if we're on the water by 9:00 when you get to town, you can call me on my cell when you get in.
I'll be fishing someplace in the waubay area friday afternoon until about 5:00 if anyone gets in early and wants to join me. I plan on being to the hotel by 6:00 to meet people.
See you all this weekend !

A couple of notes:
Be sure to check the limits on the lake you are fishing as they are all different.
As of 2 days ago, 3 cars have gone in in the Watertown area so be careful.

It sounds like it is going to be warmer this weekend so it should be real nice.
I was on Miltona on newyears and there was a Tahoe in up to the front seat because he wanted to do a u-turn instead of backing up after he had parked on the ice right next to shore.
I was then out fishing and a full size extended cab 4 wheel drive pickup came on at the landing and drove 400 yds where we were fishing.
You could see the 7 1/2 inches of ice bend under the truck and the water boiled out of our holes when he came within 100 yds of us.
This must be GODS way of culling our species and only the smart will survive.
Of course it would be the state of MN fault because they didn't have signs up stating it wasn't thick enough to drive on:)
See ya all on Fri.

I will have a total of five people with me. We will probably just bring our own food. But I will have a small grill, and all of the extra stuff so don't be afraid to ask. I will have a Honda 4 X 4 and it will be pulling the trailer that it was trailered on so we can use that to run back and forth if need be.
A note about the ice. I drove on the ice with my jeep yesterday on Kampeska, Pelican, and the SW corner of Waubay. All those areas were 12 inches approx of good clear ice, and there were many large trucks out there too, so there is driveable ice in some areas, but the majority of waubay is thin, and there are areas of open water on many lakes, so atv's will still be a plus if we need to get around on thinner areas.
One of the trucks that went thru monday was on Pelican, he got too close to a fairly large area of open water. He broke through 5 inches of ice (the rest of the lake is 12-14 inches), swam, crawled up, and got a ride back to town.

Fishing update. I was fishing yesterday and there must have been something with the weather b/c the fishing was off. Went to Dry Lake...nothing. Went to Maynard's Slew...2 perch (1-13" perch). Went to Pelican...zilch. This is with 5 people!! Drove on all 3 lakes. 12-14" of good ice. In talking with everyone up there, the fishing has been good, but yesterday was off for everyone.
My friend in Watertown is taking this entire week off to fish with his dad and brother, so I hope he can give aid in picking a lake, if needed. I hope to come up Saturday & Sunday, but it's not definite.
Should be a great weekend weather-wise. Now if we can find fish!!

Eyes or anyone, what was the name of the motel that you posted the phone # for? I made reservations and can't remember the name or where it is located at. The first thread you created is either gone or I am not searching correctly but I cannot find it.
I didn't know that senility started at 39 years old:)

Just to let you guys know, I have been out fishing every day for the last 2 weeks. I live in Watertown. I would NOT recommend driving a truck on the ice. My friend and I just about went down on a 4-wheeler today and watched a pick-up sink its back half but didn't go down because they had enough momentum going. Those both happened on Lynn out in the middle in different places. There was absolutely no sign of weak or bad ice. I fish every day I can and know what to look for. I drilled a hole 15 feet from where we almost went in and the ice was 12 inches. I have found areas on most other lakes with only an inch or two of ice in some places and a foot or more in others. Almost every lake has areas that have just recently frozen over. It has really been a poor year for ice and I would not trust any of it. Hope you guys stay safe and have a good trip!
guest house :)
see ya in a few days.

We should be at Waubay by 10:00am does anyone have a start place for the mornings fishing. As before I will have a red ATV and will be pulling a small trailer, my truck is a black crew cab with a big flag and the rear window. My cell is 605-366-0141 My service is with Verizon so I hope to have service. See ya all there.
I'm going to go check out two spots this afternoon (I'm hitting the water in about a half hour) near watertown, both of which I got good reports on from people that were there last night. We don't have an official meeting place for saturday morning, but you can call me on my cell phone when you get to the area. Anyone else want to volounteer as a secondary contact? Preferably someone that will be in town tonight that will know the plan.
I'll be at the guest house bar tonite at 6:00 or so and we'll toss a few back and make plans for tomorrow.
I look forward to seeing you all!

well since I can't be their, due to us military. I'll tell you what I know...
Was out on Waubay a couple of times last weekend. Spanked the perch. and quite a few walleyes mostly smaller. The bite is slow until 3ish then it was 1 rod action....
in 20+ foot of water and could still see the bottom (clearly) and could see the perch hit the #@#$#$... lol. also seen some big walleyes cruising under the shack....
good luck. and watch the ice guys....
Dutch, if you can't get an answer on my cell phone when you get here, try 881 0661.
