I've been making pencil plugs for walleye handliners and after looking at my Mania "Burt" lure, I decided to do a muskie version. I know the smaller muskie drive the handliners nuts in the spring biting on the 4-5" walleye plugs. Do you think this 1" diameter, 11" long monster version has potential? It's made of hardwood and forward weighted to dive a little. Definitely a jerkbait.

Still waiting on terminal tackle. Just the lure body in the pic.

I would do thru wire construction, I would be worried about it breaking in the middle.

Even though 11 inches is not too big, I would rather cast something in the 9 inch range. 11 would be good for trolling....

I would also think that something in the blue/silver color would be good (shad/tullibee color.)

My thoughts, free advice and all that....

Thanks. I was thinking the thru-wire for the rear hook strength. I have 2" .092 muskie strength screw-eyes coming, but I'm still not 100%sold. When I get them I'm going to hang a 100# weight from the tail to test it out. The wood is pretty tough. I used hardwood and my 175# can stand on one horizintally without even a crack.

I think your right. I'll probably settle on making them 9".

I'm going to come up with some cool patterns. Much easier to paint and can get more creative than on Shad Raps and other walleye lures.
