Does anyone know if there is a device to cast flys and where to get one. I was told there was one made with a green plastic material, but I have not as yet found one. I don't know if this is just a backwoods legend, but I would like to get one for use when the big fish are not interested in lures.

casting bubble, you can place it on your line and attach a fly 4 or 5 feet past, works slick. something like a bobber but it is clear and you canadd water to it for extra wieght.
I have a real neat thing for casting flies, I think they call it a fly rod. Seriously, we used to use pencil bobbers, same principle as the bubbles, they just aren't clear. The problem is that you are just as likely to get a fish to hit the float as you are the lure.

I used to use the clear bubble in front of a leader with two flies for trout in Colorado 30 years ago. They work slick for those who do not want to learn the fly rod. Not quite as satisfying as the fly rod. I doubt flys would be thought of as more dependable an artifical bait than other muskie lures. Even in colorado they have streams that are fly fishing only, no bait and no lures. It is harder in general to fool a fish with a fly since they need to be made to look like the real thing.

If you want to try something that is very effective and lots of fun...put the clear plastic float partly filled with water at the end of the line. Then attach one or two flies on short leaders to dropper loops in the line between the rod tip and the float. You can tighten up the line and the flies can be dabbled on the water. It is much easier to strike the fish this way too.
