What is best side of boat to put kicker motor bracket and motor? What are pros and cons of each location port or starboard. I plan to sit at back of boat to use kicker for trolling . I have a Lund Fisherman 1750 with 90Honda which trolls well but have been told kicker gives better boat control and slower speeds.Thanks.

generally, kickers that are run with the tiller handle, are mounted on the steering wheel side (starboard). this allows easier turning full swing, left or right. (mounted on the other side seems tougher to turn, especially, hard right.) also, you are able to see the depthfinder mounted on your dash easier.

Like you said, there are pros and cons to either side. Personally, I'm left handed, and it's easier for me to backtroll with the kicker on the starboard side, so I can steer with my right hand and hold my rod in my left. Weight balance is an issue for me, because with 100 extra pounds on my side of the boat, when I'm driving alone the boat leans a bit to starboard. Not a big deal at all, though. Take a good look at your boat, as well. On Lunds, the placement of the rear baitwell makes a port side tiller kicker less than ideal.

The best thing for you to do is sit in the back of your boat right now and imagine yourself trolling. Think about where rod holders will be, think about what hand you prefer steering the kicker with, and where your graphs will be. You don't want to have to strain your neck to see a graph.

I find it better to have the kicker on the same side as the steering wheel, especially if you are used to steering the kicker with your left hand. You then face the inside of the boat and can fish out the back of the boat when fishing with 2-3 people in the boat.
