I think your rods will be sufficient. I find 9' to be a little ackward to handle for casting. The 8' rod should be o.k. I use 65 lb. PowerPro for all my muskie situations, but do not troll very often.

nubee;
If you are going to troll using one of the newer superbraid lines, use about a 4 to 5 ft mono or fluorocarbon shock leader with the typical wire leader at the business end.
The mono or flouro shock leader will do two things for you:
1. It will stretch at hookset (something the braid will not do) to cushion the hookset and you aren't as apt to tear the hooks out.
2. If the musky rolls up in the line (something they are prone to do when hooked trolling) the mono or fluoro is less damaging to the fish.
The steel leader at the business end is for insurance purposes; decent sized muskies can and eventually will bite off mono or fluoro. The steel leader will ensure you don't lose the fish of a lifetime due to a bite-off.
40 to 60 lb. mono or flourocarbon is adequate as shock leaders for muskies.
Welcome to our madness! Cheers and tight lines,
Musky Mike
