View Full Version : Mounting Transducers on Hull
I've been running a PinPoint on the bow/trolling motor and a cheap Humminbird on the dash with its tranducer on the transom. I'd like to pick up an inexpensive PinpPoint graph for the dash to replace the Humminbird and mount its transducer in the bottom of my boat on the hull. My goal is to be able to avoid the cavitation a transom mount suffers and with the higher powered PinPoint be able to get good readings and see bait fish at 10, 20 30? m.p.h. I could also network the two PinPoint graphs. My questions are these: 1) how to best mount the transducer on the hull, i.e. what kind of glue do you use, where to locate the transducer, must it be flush against the hull & if so how do you accomplish that with a V hull, and 2) do you think I can achieve my goals this way? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated guys.
Aluminum or other material?
I looked into hull mounting a while back and left it on the transom.
Many people on the site said hull mounting was a bad idea.

A shoot-thru hull installation can be suscessful. First you need to make sure your location is clean and dry with no oil or grease. Sand the surface with 100 grit paper. Use a 2 part epoxy. Here are the brands Lowrance recommends: Power Poxy, True Value brand True Bond epoxy or Plastic Welder also sold by True Value) or Devcon brand Plastic Welder Exoxy. Mix the epoxy slowly so you dont get any bubbles. This is critical! Spread a small amount of epoxy on the transducer and some on the mounting location, using as little as possible to achieve a position that will make the transducer level with the lake bottom. Twist and turn the transducer into the epoxy as you mount it to force out any air bubbles. I am paraphrasing from the Lowrance manual.
