I've had mine for about 5 years now and and like it very much. The units you can buy today are all 12 channel receivers and this is only a 5 channerl receiver, but thats all you need to lock on when your on the river. Its very user friendly without having to learn a lot of menus to program its various functions. You can split the screen into 3 different views at the same time if you want. Besides its fish locator and zoom capabilities, it has a course plotter and a "Go To" function which shows you your compass heading, distance to go, time of arrive to your waypoint, if your straying off course, etc.

My Impulse 4040 is one with the loran rather than GPS. I does an excellent job in my opinion. Features I especially like include the large wide screen, touch screen controls, easy to use menus, 120 Khz transducer frequency (does not interfere with my other 50/200 Khz graph), and availability of about 3 different transducer cone angles.
The only thing I don't like is that on cloudy days it can sometimes be difficult to see the screen. I have noticed this problem on all of the Impulse equipment that I have seen. The units have back lighting, but it does not seem to help too much.
If you are interested in getting a loran model of 4040 let me know. A local marina I do web page work for has quite a few in stock of both the 2830 (smaller screen) and the 4040 at much lower costs than the GPS models.
