Its kind of like that skunk smell , smell enough of it and sooner or later you won't smell it at all.

I have never heard of using toothpaste to get rid of the fishy smell on your hands. Does it really work?

Texeye: Try a little Lemon juice, or Lime juice. Ever squeeze a lemon to a cup of tea, or lime into a gin and tonic and smell your fingers? A few years ago the citrus craze in fragrances was real hot. Most of the citrus oils will cancel bad odors, except NORTHERN SLIME!!!! Naw, just kiddin' Good luck DEODORIZING....Kaz

Lemon Juice works wonders, go out to a discount center like Sams and get the liter bottles of it, then scrub it into your hands before and after washing with soap, best results is to let it soak into your skin for a minute or so. If you have any open sores, look out, it burns!!!

Duh! You didn't suggest anything! I thought he might be joking because I had never heard of using toothpast to wash your hands. You have a crappy day too gilligan.

Simple Green. You can get it in a tube at most hardward and home supply stores.

I suggested the toothpaste without reading his question completly. Then I came back and edited. It does cut it but won't remove completly.

I use a grease remover that Walmart and other automotive places sell for removing automotive grease from your hands. It is a white paste with mild abrasive that comes in a tub. It is orange scented and leaves your hands with an orange scent. Inexpensive as I recall around $3 for a large tub and is called something like "Orange Goo". Washes easily with water. Works great!

This is a trick I learned from an "old timer" about ten years back. Put some dish soap in your hand and then add about a tablespoon of sugar to it. Wash your hands with this soap/sugar mixture. It's the only thing I use. Give it a try.

Just heard this the other day on a cooking show and have not yet tried it for myself. Also was recommended for getting rid of garlic and onion odor so I would guess fish would be simple over garlic.

Just run water over your hands to get them damp, then rub then on stainless steel. Like a pot or something.

Sounds like B.S. I know, but I have also seen pieces of metal shaped like a bar of soap in the local sporting goods store that are used for scent removal also so mabey there is something to it.

The only problem with lemon juice is that after a day of fishing, and then cleaning fish I usually have small cuts on my hands. I guess a real man would worry more about the smell than the pain.

Lindy 'No Scent Soap' is the only thing I carry and it works every time. Heck, you can stick your hand in a bucket of gasoline and wash it with this stuff and it will leave your hands odor free. Simply amazing stuff. Too good to not carry in your boat.

You're right about the soap shaped bars of stainless steel.
Their real popular in the fish houses and processing compoanies along the Atlantic coast from Maine to Florida.
I have one and you don't even need water...just use it like you were soaping up your hands and the smell goes away.
I got mine while at the South St. Seaport (Fulton Fish market) in New York City a few years back.

Simple Green and a good quality toothpaste also work well.
Gets the smell out of the carpets in your vehicles too !

The SS bars do work, I was a hard sell on them but hay they do work.

Arm & Hammer Backing Soda tooth paist is another good one even for getting rid of strong base catfish baits.

If you have a stainless sink - just scour the sink with any one of those green scrub pads and rub your hands around a little and it's a done deal. Works for onion, garlic, fish and peppers - soap is optional.

Lemon juice and salt. Sure it stings those nicks but it seems to help heal them also. Then some bag balm and your ready to go again.

I can answer that in 2 words:

Shaving Cream.

Thats right, try washing your hands with shaving cream. Works everytime.

I also use the lindys "no scent soap" I use it before I handle any rods or lures. After cleaning fish this soap works great. Just give it a try. Don

OK,.even though it may seem like it,...this is NOT a joke,....if it's really bad (I had a friend that had some pike in a bucket ant it spilled onto his carpet in his SUV,..pretty bad),...and the only thing that worked,..MASSENGEL,.(sp?)..It seems like the best thing for your dog if he has an encounter with a skunk too,....

I keep a bar of lava in the boat at all times. I started doing so years ago when I read an article about odors, not just fish odors, on your hands and how to get rid of them. The gist of the article was that lava works on everything and is not objectionable to fish.

Seems to do the job
