I now it's not an option but my vote would go to shallow water trolling with cranks. Less than 10 feet of water, with my secret bait.

Bottom bouncers eitehr on the bottom or suspended with home tied spinners, easiest way, in my mind of course, to pattern and work a certain depth.

SLIPKNOT,
And here I thought I was the only one. BTW - a number 5 shad rap in either crawdad or holographic shiner.

I would have to vote for my favorite way to catch eye's has to be jigging in 10-25 feet of water. Nothing like that little thump, then set away. Although I like to crank, there is not enough finesse to me with just waiting for the rod tip to start bouncing or the drag to release, then just reel in.

Spearing! Of course, that's not an option for everyone.

Dodge1, I have to agree with you on the #5 shad raps, my personal favorite colors are firetiger, orange and gold, chrome blue, and chorme gold. Also, whats your favorite type of shallow water trolling? Mine would be in dirty water with stumps.

Has to be weedbeds. If you get the rap about 1' above the weeds :)

My opinion is that I would rather catch a three pound walleye live bait rigging or jigging than catch an eight pound walleye trolling cranks. I feel that it takes more finese and is much more fun feeling the bite and having to catch the fish, instead of it catching you. Good Day to everyone!

Interesting. Are you referring to walleyes?
What is the limit where you are spearing walleyes?
Are you spearing in open water at night, creeks/rivers at night, or darkhouse? Do you get any big ones where you spear?
What is your favorite time of year?

there is a lot of things i would have to take into account here, big bodys of open water were the fish are on the move ya got to troll to cover water and stay with the fish like sag bay and lk erie, on lakes i like to use small jigs with leeches with slip bobbers and drop it down on top of the weeds or rocks, wich ever the case may be and let it tease them like a hot babe in a tiny bikini, gets me every time ! on resiovers i like to troll with bottom bouncers with shallow running cranks or harness with leeches or big fat crawlers to cover water and to work points and drop off,s. tough question with-out knowing what water were working. there all fun so i choose them all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you take a look at a poll I posted on the "Fishing Reports" forum for December 31,2001, you'll get some additional ideas on favorite fishing methods. In that poll, I asked about western, highland reservoirs and broke live baits down into Lindy rigging and bottom bouncing. I also broke down trolling into 2 different depths. A lot of my fish (>60%) are caught using planer boards, but I didn't include that because I've never seen anyone else use them here in the Southwest.
I haven't gotten enough responses yet to draw conclusions. But,
you'll see another way to differentiate between fishing methods for eyes.

Oh, yeah - favorite crank bait to troll. The 1/4 oz Wally Diver in metallic copper perch pattern, 6 - 8' deep. That has to be one popular lure because Cabela's is almost always on back order on them!!

Casting single spinner rigs on Erie is a blast. "YOU" actually catch your fish this way! Trolling is all about lure selection, placement, boat speed/control, and direction. Once mastered, and it takes a master, the boat catches all of the fish. When casting it's you against the fish. I have done both, and find casting a much more rewarding experience.

1. working a Crank Bait in the shallows
2. Vertical Jigging
3. Trolling Crank Baits.
Though I fish many methods year around, my favorite is
pimpling in the winter using my trusty vexilar...
