You had replied to one of my posts about boat sales careers a while ago and I wonder if I might pick your brain a little. I am interested in how boat salesmen get paid. Is it salary, commission, or a combination of both? I realize sales is a widely varying field but is there any generalizations you can give me about yearly salary, commission per boat, or anything else dealing with salary?
Thank you (or anyone else) for any information,
Joel B.
Every place is different. Commission is usually the norm for each sale. Some places will pay you something every week so you have an income. This is usually pretty low ($100-200 a week), but will help. The only way you can really predict what income will receive is to find out how a dealership pays and then try to look into your crystal ball and see how many boats you will sell and go from there. The dealership can give you a pretty good idea of what you will make a year too, based on current staff incomes. A lot of places will give you a salary for a year so you can get on your feet and then commissions after that. If you like I can give you more insight via your e-mail.
