I have a 1999 Ford pickup with a 5.4 in it. At 26000 miles the rear crankshaft seal is leaking . It is supposed to be replaced on Tues. As this is my first Ford after driving brand X for 15 yrs. I was wondering is this common or did I just get unlucky ? PLEASE don't start a brand fight . Thanks in advance . Joe

Sorry to hear about your Ford. I was a brand X user for many years, and still run it with 180,000 on it. I just purchased a 2002 F150 with the 4.6, and at 1100 miles, the water pump blew. That was at 18 days after delivery. The dealer had it for 6 days due to the Christmas holiday, and the unavailability of a new water pump. I picked it up on the Friday before New Years, drove it that Saturday, and the water pump blew AGAIN! Another tow and another week at the dealer to get a new fan clutch to go along with a new water pump. I am not sure if long term reliablity is synonamous with my new Ford. Will the rear seal be covered under an extended warranty?
Lots of luck to you.

I checked the above web site and from there it sounds like Ford is having problems with thier head gaskets also . Yes it is covered under warranty , but after driving brand X 214000 miles without even taking the valve covers off this is upsetting to say the least. The reason I went with a Ford is because of the dealership . Lets hope they follow through on this .
