I am a well seasoned walleye guide who just wish's to occasionally compete in a major event. A educational vacation opportunity you may call it, your never so smart as you can't learn a new trick?

The Pro-Am format is the most appealing to me from the educational view point but if all I am is dead weight and not a true team player I would just as soon skip it. What say does a Am team member have in a Pro-Am event, if any?

How many Pro-Am formats are there and what are the costs an deadlines to enter?

Do you need to drag the boat with or just show up with the appropriate gear and tackle ready and willing to do your best and learn what you can?

Thank you

There are 2, the PWT and the new RCL. Both are on the mainpage of WC. You have to have a Ranger, Crestliner or Lund to fish the RCL.
Both good. Take your pick and welcome.

You don't have to be a boat owner to fish the co-angler side of the events.

I have fished the co angler side of quite a few pro/am events, and have always had a fun time. I was never treated like anything but a full partner when we were on the water. I got to reel in fish, and net fish. Although, I never told my pro where, when, or how to fish because it was their call. It's their game and the co anglers are there to help. The Pro makes all the decisions...even when they want my input I just tell them, "it's your game, it's up to you". You just hope you get the lucky draws, and place high.

I learned something new from everyone I have fished with.

Try it, you'll like it...;-)

p.s. You can take your boat or try to set up prefishing with some of the pros ahead of time. Otherwise, you only need to show up and get in the boat come tourney time. I usually like to get at least two days of prefishing in, so I'm warmed up to the techniques used on a particular body of water, and I'm ready to go come tourney time.

Great answer Juls! That pretty much sums it up. There is another post currently floating around here about Pro-Am tournaments where the individual is looking to share costs with another amateur partner, sounds like a golden chance for you to hook up with a new friend and take in the tournament on Lake Erie as well.
When you sign up let Mark Dorn, or Jim Kalkofen know that you are interested in pre-fishing with a pro---they may be able to put you in touch with someone!

Good luck, and see ya in Port Clinton!

Morning Keith,
If I were fishing the PWT I would have chimed in on that thread, but I'm not fishing them, so I stayed out of it..;-)
