I need info on the new electic steer from panther.Any one test it?Is it wireless? Dependable?? the cost is reasonable and it looks like a great item.

It is not wireless (has a 20' removable cord). Fast and dependable. I know some touring pros who prefer it to the TR-1.

I have used this product for 2 seasons. Good value for the money and very reliable. Easy to install and use. The new model is compact and much better than the one from 2000. You will enjoy using it.

Den,

From the pictures I have seen, this unit is mounted in the splashwell. Is that correct? I do a lot of backtrolling and the splashwell is often full of water. Does the unit work well under those conditions?

The unit i saw was mounted in the splashwell, and the water did not bother the working of it in the least, as Chairman stated, the new ones even work better. good luck and good fishin.

Its a great investment, inexpensive and very tuff. Water will not bother it and it steers much fast than you would think. Very easy to install, 30 minutes will do it. You can steer from anywhere in the boat, the cord is 20'.

Mr. Bill,
If you believe I would tell you the truth (heheh ok, this time I will) then go with this one...you know me!!!!!
You will be very happy with your choice.
I love to operate the Panther Electro-Steer over the TR-1 simply because it responds better. I have used both, and prefer the Panther.
I'll be using the Panther this year too.

put it on My boat last year, and it really was the best improvement I made yet!. frees the hands to fish, not steer. and is very quick, and well worth the bucks.-

Hey Juls?

Does the panther hold the motor strongly enough to leave it connected while you're running from spot to spot, to keep the motor from flopping side to side? It sounds like a Panther, in conjunction with a Bracket Pro, could be a good way to go. I want to keep things as simple and bulletproof as possible, and not limit my options at all. I like this idea, because I can always disconnect the Panther and backtroll with the tiller handle.

Just curious about what is "new" in the Electro-Steer for 2002?

I was thinking of adding one this year and want to be sure I get the 'latest & greatest', not last year's leftover.

Also, is there any advantage to putting on the saltwater version?

Thanks.

I've got a serious open-water itch going on this week. It must be those 40 and 50 degree temps!

Don't know about the changes from 2000 year model. I have a 2001 on my boat.
At the time I bought mine, I believe the saltwater version is the same as the freshwater version except it has a satinless steel connecting rod and hardware versus the zinc plated on the freshwater version.

Brain,

I left my electrosteer connected once last year and tilted my kicker up (when launching). The motor happended to be turned so the steering rod bound up. That was enough to bend the brass plate (sliding plate) of the electrosteer. It was soft enough to bend back (and it works ok) but I would reccomend caution to avoid that type of situation happening. So I would disconnect it when trailering, just to play it safe.
Its a great unit---why did I wait so long to get this?????
