OK its not my own experience but I often times ride in the vehicle and am close friends with the owner. There is a lot of power in the car but not alot of speed. If he will be carrying alot of people in the back seat might not be the car for him, it's a bit of a squeeze getting in and out of the rear doors. The gas mileage is rather deplorable but the ride is smoothe and it's really quite easy to customize and adjust (shocks, steering, tires and things of such). Although it might seem like a bad choice the little quirks or features i.e. the goodies that go in the back, such as the first aid kit and matress are interesting not to mention handy, and the rear power outlet comes in extremely useful at times. Look at the car evaluate what he wants and how well the Xtera fits what he wants then make the call. The only complaint the owner has is the gas mileage. Hope it helps.

Last June I needed to buy a new vehicle. On the list to look at were the Xterra, Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Ford Escape and the Jeep Liberty. I ended up with the Jeep. Lots of power, 5000# towing cap., lots of room and the prices on all the above are about the same, depending on how you accesorize. The two people I know that have Xterras wish they had more power and pickup.

I had a brand new Xterra in May of 2000. It was a nice truck to drive around town and the occasional highway trip. But as far as a vehicle to be used as a tow vehicle....not impressed to say the least. It lacks power and had no ability to pass another vehicle. If I was going to spend the money on a new SUV, with my needs, I would not buy a Xterra.

I guess I should of added that he pulls a 16' alum. boat with a 25hp tiller, nothing bigger and thanks for your opinions!
