I am purchasing a boat and included is a Si-Tex CVS 106. I do not have any experience with these units and would be interested in knowing how effective they are. Do they work well for fishing rock reefs? Any tricks to using them?

The 106 ia a nice unit and will out perform a liquid crystal. I have both and the 106 reads it before the liquid crystal. It is great for deep water but the only down side it draws alot more current somthing like 5 amps because of the picture tube in it. It also picks up fish on the bottom real nice. One more thing you need to know ,it is not waterproof....

Thanks for the response. How does the fish show up? Are they a different color or an icon? My dad has a boat top business so I may have him make a cover for the unit to keep water out. The boat also has 2 LMS 350's. Do you think the si-tex will pick up fish better than these units?

LMS 350 is basically an X 70 with a GPS and is a nice unit but the 106 has better resoultion and more power. Liquid crystal does not compare to catv, in other words the picture tube is better. The 106 is like one of those Genatron units, and as I said before I see it first in the 106 then it will show up on the liquid crystal. For deep water you can't beat the 106...............
