Good Morning!!

Finally got the spring catalog from Cabela's and noticed they dropped the Guidewear Lite series. So..my question to those out there is, How good is the Denny Brauer Signature Series Rain Gear? It is not Gore-Tex, but the Dry Plus. The system looks to be pretty similar to the Guidewear with a few less pockets and maybe not as tough of an exterior material.

Any thoughts or observations would be highly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Steve

I have the Signature Series bibs. they have worked very well for me.
I bought them out of the bargain cave for around $50, but would have paid full price and went to Cabela's with full intentions of buying them, it just so happened that they had a set in my size in the bargain cave.
They are very heavy duty and have kept me dry. I haven't been out in a full blown down pour, but think they would perform well. I have a Guide Wear jacket that I bought to go with them, it is a nice piece of gear also, but I can't say that it is made any more strong than the Signature Series. I believe for the money the Signature Series is a pretty good buy. You might want to check out Cabela's online bargain cave they have some good specials in there. I gave $100 for my guide wear jacket there.

I purchased a set of the Signature series gear last spring and used them pretty hard over the course of the last year in about all conditions and have been 100% satisfied with them. I have not had any problems with them nor have they failed to keep me warm and dry. This includes some very serious rain and cool weather storms here in Montana and a long wet week at the Mille Lacs PWT last year. I've been using them lately while fishing in mainly dry but cool(25-35 degree)weather while Lake Trout fishing on Flathead lake and they make an excellent weather barrier against the cool air. The only complaint I have had is that they have almost too much Velcro at all the sealing joints(leg zipper and front zipper area on bibs, and zipper on coat). I certainly can't list this as a design flaw, if anything they just went over board to ensure weather seal. To remedy the problem of haveing all that velcro to work through and around, I simply went to the local sewing store and bought a roll of Velcro and cut it into 4"-5" strips and stuck the appropriate side(either the hook part or the knapp part)to the opposited side on the jacket and bibs to cut down on the exposed Velcro on the clothing. I figured this has a two fold effect,(1)it customizes how much velcro you want exposed at all your seal points at any given time(2)by not using all of the Velcro on the gear all the time, as it begins to wear out over the years simply remove the pieces you added and you have brand new Velcro to keep the seal good and tight. I also own a set of Cabela's hunting rain wear that incorporates the same weather proofing system with a micro fleece outer. I use it during the fall while bowhunting elk and whitetails and have been very happy with this product as well. I feel that the two products are meant to be very comparable, just different outer shells designed for different uses. Both use the Dry Plus water proofing system however. I have complete confidence in the product is what I'm trying to say, sorry it took me so long. I just feel this product needs some good print. Good luck, RJ in Montana....

I have a pair and they are very nice. Little lighter then the guidewear which is nice during the summer. The neoprenecuffs are nice in a downpour but are kind of a pain otherwise.

If I may ask, what is it that you do not like about the cuffs? I know the guidewear cuffs seemed really comfortable, and I have yet to actually try on a signature series jacket.

Thanks!!

I hear you on the fact of all most to much velcro!!!!! it makes for kind of a pain to use the leg
zippers. I like the idea you gave to remedy this problem. I will try it thanks. I am surprised
more people haven't bought the Signature rain gear. Usually anything with Cabela's name
on it is good stuff.
